The role of Line Cook at OVG offers a unique opportunity to learn from a team of seasoned chefs while playing a vital part in delivering exceptional food service to guests throughout various events held at the venue. This position involves preparing high-quality meals, both hot and cold, in accordance with company recipes and portioning requirements. The Line Cook works in multiple settings such as buffet lines, station serving areas, and suite catering, including serving sports teams like the Men’s and Women’s FSU basketball teams during events.
The job requires maintaining excellent attendance and availability to work according to scheduled events, which can include a variety of concerts, sporting events, and other live performances. The Line Cook is also expected to operate culinary equipment safely and to report any maintenance needs promptly, ensuring that the kitchen environment remains safe, sanitary, and efficient. This role demands teamwork and clear communication with kitchen staff and event management to ensure that every dish served meets the highest standards. Beyond the technical cooking skills, the position encourages the development of customer service skills through direct interaction with guests, particularly in hospitality areas.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience in a commercial kitchen or food preparation preferred
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift moderate weights
- Availability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and event days
- Ability to follow directions and adhere to food safety standards
- Excellent attendance record
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment
- Must have valid food handling certification if required by local laws
Job Qualifications
- Previous cook or prep cook experience preferred
- Able to operate standard kitchen equipment, including the broiler, steamer, convection oven, mixer, meat slicer, and chef knife
- Ability to communicate with employees, co-workers, volunteers, management staff, and guests in a clear, business-like, and respectful manner, which focuses on generating a positive, enthusiastic, and cooperative work environment
- Ability to work well in a team-oriented, fast-paced, event-driven environment
- Possess a valid food handling certificate if required by state and federal regulations
- ServSafe preferred
Job Duties
- Responsible for providing high-quality, fresh food products in a timely manner for delivery to guests
- Prepares hot and cold foods following company recipes and portioning requirements
- Participates as a team player with specific responsibilities as related to preparation, excellent service, and delivery of product
- Responsible for reporting any maintenance required for kitchen equipment
- Maintains sanitation, health, and safety standards in work areas
- Responsible for observing and testing foods to ensure proper cooking
- Responsible for portioning, arranging, and garnishing food plates for delivery to guests
- Responsible for consulting with Executive Chef, Sous Chef or Lead Line Cook to plan menus and estimate expected food consumption
- Show demonstrated ability to meet the company standard for excellent attendance
