Job Description

This job opportunity is offered by a dynamic hospitality establishment specializing in Asian cuisine, with a particular focus on Chinese regional dishes while incorporating flavors from Thai, Vietnamese, and sushi preparations. The establishment prides itself on delivering a high-quality dining experience that combines authentic culinary techniques with exceptional service standards. Known for its vibrant buffet offerings and commitment to food safety and sanitation, the company operates with a dedicated and professional team aimed at maintaining an enjoyable and safe environment for guests and staff alike.

The role in question is that of a Buffet Assistant or Culinary Assistant who plays a crucial support role in the kitchen and buffet settings. This position involves close collaboration with cooks and chefs to prepare a variety of food items essential to the establishment's buffet services. The candidate will be responsible for tasks such as cutting vegetables, preparing dressings, making soups, and assisting in overall food preparation while adhering to stringent hygiene and safety protocols. Shift availability includes swing and graveyard shifts, requiring flexibility and commitment to varied working hours.

Beyond the routine preparation of food, this role demands vigilance in monitoring food temperatures, maintaining cleanliness, replenishing buffet items, and ensuring quality control across all food products served. The Buffet Assistant will work closely with the kitchen team to manage supplies, check storage areas like freezers and walk-ins to confirm freshness and proper rotation, and communicate any issues to the Sous Chef or Assistant Executive Chef. The position has no supervisory responsibilities but emphasizes teamwork, excellent communication, and a willingness to learn and grow within the culinary field.

Applicants are expected to possess a high school diploma and have knowledge or experience related to Asian cuisines, particularly Chinese, with familiarity extending to Thai and Vietnamese dishes and sushi fabrication. Prior wok cooking experience and a proven record of sound judgment in previous roles are advantageous. The role requires physical endurance to handle prolonged standing, bending, and occasional lifting of food items or supplies up to 25 pounds. The ability to work in a fast-paced environment with exposure to moderate noise, bright lighting, smoke, and dust is also necessary.

The Buffet Assistant role offers an excellent opportunity for culinary enthusiasts seeking to enhance their skills and prepare for potential promotion to cook positions. The establishment promotes a culture of continuous learning, adherence to departmental policies, and maintaining the highest sanitation standards. The successful candidate will be expected to be punctual, maintain a clean and professional appearance, and demonstrate cooperative and friendly behavior toward team members and guests. Certifications such as Serve Safe and applicable gaming licenses or registrations are required, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
