Job Description
Makers Union is an innovative and inclusive modern pub that redefines the traditional pub experience by focusing on craveable, locally sourced food and beverages from a variety of regional producers, including breweries, distilleries, roasters, and wineries. The establishment prides itself on offering a vibrant and approachable menu that blends classic favorites with globally inspired dishes, reflecting the diverse cultural influences of the local community. Designed to be a versatile social hub, Makers Union caters to a wide audience—from sports fans and solo diners to groups of friends and families—providing a welcoming atmosphere for any occasion.
As a part of the Thompson Hospitality family, one of the largest restaurant, food service, and facilities management companies in the United States, Makers Union benefits from a rich legacy of more than 33 years of client, guest, and community partnerships. Thompson Hospitality operates under core values of integrity, excellence, and respect, ensuring employees and guests alike are treated with fairness and dignity. The company emphasizes a culture where doing the right thing, striving for the best, and treating others as one would like to be treated are paramount. These principles create a positive and supportive work environment where team members can thrive and grow.
Joining Makers Union as a Line Cook offers a unique opportunity to showcase your culinary skills in a fast-paced, collaborative setting. This role is essential to maintaining the kitchen's high standards through preparing and cooking menu items precisely according to established recipes and quality benchmarks. The Line Cook will work closely with the kitchen team to ensure timely food production and uphold food safety and sanitation standards rigorously. Responsibilities include managing station cleanliness, adhering to portion control and presentation standards, assisting with inventory management, and reducing waste by promoting stock rotation.
The ideal candidate for this position will have experience working in dynamic, high-volume kitchen environments and possess a deep understanding of cooking techniques, flavor combinations, and proper food handling practices. Strong team communication and adaptability are necessary to respond effectively to the fast-changing demands typical of a busy kitchen. Attention to detail and a passion for quality food preparation are essential traits, as is a commitment to providing exceptional dishes for guests.
Physically, the role requires the ability to stand for extended periods, often in hot and wet conditions, lift and carry heavy items up to 50 pounds, and safely operate various kitchen equipment. Flexibility to work diverse shifts, including weekends and holidays, is necessary to meet operational needs. Certification in food safety and sanitation is considered a valuable asset, underscoring the employer's commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy environment for both employees and patrons.
Makers Union and Thompson Hospitality strive to create an inclusive and equitable workplace. They are committed to diversity and equal employment opportunity without discrimination based on race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, or any other protected status. Employees can expect competitive benefits and support in their professional journey within a respected and community-focused hospitality leader. This Line Cook role is a fantastic opportunity for culinary professionals seeking to advance their careers within a supportive, innovative, and vibrant culinary environment.
