The role of Cook at Kooky Canuck involves a comprehensive range of kitchen duties designed to maintain the restaurant's standards of quality and customer satisfaction. This position requires preparing meats, fish, vegetables, soups, and other hot food products, including portioning and plating with precise attention to presentation and garnish. The Cook will also be responsible for maintaining safe and sanitary food handling practices, managing inventory by ensuring freshness and proper storage, and operating various commercial kitchen equipment such as broilers, convection ovens, deep fryers, grills, and more. Working closely with fellow kitchen staff and supervisors, the candidate will assist in menu planning, food preparation during off-peak periods, and stepping in for other cooks during busy times to support smooth operations. The role offers full-time and part-time schedules, including 8-hour shifts, night shifts, and weekend availability, with a competitive pay range of $640 to $800 per week. Job Duties

  • Promote, work, and act in a manner consistent with the mission of Kooky Canuck
  • Inspect and clean and maintain food preparation and serving areas to ensure safe and sanitary food-handling practices
  • Ensure food is stored and cooked at correct temperature by regulating kitchen equipment
  • Ensure freshness of food and ingredients by checking quality and rotating stock
  • Know and comply with standard portion sizes, cooking methods, and quality standards
  • Responsible for the quality of products served
  • Stock and maintain sufficient levels of food products at line stations
  • Handle, store, and rotate food products and supplies according to policies
  • Turn or stir foods to ensure even cooking
  • Season and cook food according to recipes or judgment
  • Bake, roast, broil, and steam various foods
  • Weigh, measure, and mix ingredients
  • Portion, arrange, and garnish food according to standards
  • Observe and test foods for doneness
  • Follow proper plate presentation and garnish setup
  • Wash, peel, cut, and seed fruits and vegetables
  • Carve and trim meats for service
  • Assist in food prep assignments during off-peak periods
  • Substitute for or assist other cooks during emergencies or rush periods
  • Close the kitchen following closing checklists
  • Attend scheduled employee meetings and offer suggestions
  • Coordinate with and assist fellow employees to meet guests' needs
  • Fill in for fellow employees as needed
