The Line Cook position at Grand Living is a pivotal role aimed at elevating the dining experience for its residents by ensuring excellent food quality and efficient preparation. This full-time role features shifts from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., offering a stable schedule conducive to work-life balance. A notable milestone bonus of $750 is also part of the compensation, recognizing the dedication and skill that the right candidate brings to the kitchen. Reporting to the Executive Chef, the Line Cook will work within the community’s standards and culinary philosophy to produce a variety of dishes, such as meats, vegetables, potatoes, bread items, and desserts. They will embody The Sterling Touch® — a commitment to professionalism, friendliness, courtesy, and helpfulness — which creates a memorable and satisfying dining experience for residents and their guests.

The Line Cook must pay close attention to detail, as the role demands precise control over both the quality and quantity of all prepared food items. The position requires cooking expertise including scratch cooking and the ability to use various kitchen equipment with dexterity. Beyond culinary skills, candidates need to have strong English communication skills to effectively manage kitchen requisitions, read and interpret recipes, and interact with team members and residents respectfully and clearly.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Culinary arts or culinary apprenticeship preferred
  • One or more years of experience cooking in a fast-paced, cook-to-order kitchen preferred
  • One or more years of experience with scratch cooking preferred
  • Sauté and/or broiler experience preferred
  • Ability to read, write and understand the English language
  • Sufficient manual dexterity to use all kitchen equipment and utensils
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, crouch, bend, stoop, reach, grasp, push, pull and work continuously without sitting for extended periods
  • Ability to lift or carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to perform all essential functions within varying temperature ranges

Job Qualifications

  • Experience with scratch cooking preferred

  • Ability to work standing for extended periods and perform physical tasks
  • Capability to lift or carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds
  • Adaptability to perform essential functions in varying temperature ranges

Job Duties

  • Prepare and cook high-quality food items including meats, vegetables, potatoes, bread products, and desserts
  • Maintain control over the quality and quantity of all food prepared
  • Model The Sterling Touch® by demonstrating professionalism, friendliness, courtesy, and helpfulness
  • Follow Community standards, processes, procedures, and practices as directed by the Executive Chef
  • Read and interpret recipes and complete requisitions accurately
  • Manage kitchen equipment and utensils with manual dexterity
  • Ensure a timely and efficient food production resulting in high resident and guest satisfaction
