Job Description
The hiring company is a well-established entity in the food service industry, specializing in providing high-quality culinary experiences within a fast-paced commercial kitchen environment. Known for its commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction, this establishment prides itself on adhering to strict standards and maintaining a positive workplace culture. They offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes flexible working hours, employee discounts, and various insurance options, highlighting their dedication to employee well-being and work-life balance.
The position of Line Cook within the Food Service department plays a crucial role in the daily operations of the kitchen, reporting directly to the Executive Chef. This role is classified as exempt with a starting pay rate of $18.75 per hour, reflecting the company’s recognition of the skill and responsibility required. The Line Cook is responsible for the preparation of all food items, ensuring both quality and adherence to company SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) while striving to meet profitability goals.
This role demands a high level of customer service, as the Line Cook interacts directly with customers at the workstation, ensuring a positive and satisfying dining experience. The cook prepares both hot and cold foods and may utilize an array of kitchen equipment such as pizza ovens, charbroilers, griddles, steam tables, blast chillers, combitherm ovens, woks, tilt skillets, fryers, and convection ovens. This versatility is essential to maintain efficiency and quality across the menu offerings.
Additional responsibilities include packing, merchandising, and labeling merchandise while enforcing price integrity according to company standards. The cook also engages in quality control activities and complies with all regulations set forth by government and regulatory agencies to ensure safety and sanitation. Maintaining equipment in safe working condition and performing routine upkeep is another vital duty. The role further involves a variety of other operational tasks such as understanding and following recipes accurately, maintaining production logs, restocking necessary supplies, and participating in the setup and breakdown for both the service line and back kitchen.
The work environment is dynamic and fast-paced, requiring the Line Cook to operate efficiently under varying temperature conditions ranging from extreme heat in kitchen areas to cold temperatures in storage zones such as chillers and freezers. Physical demands include standing for extended periods, carrying heavy loads, and performing repetitive motions typical of food preparation. Mental agility is also essential, as the role requires clear communication, organization, multitasking, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Employees in this role must meet additional requirements such as being at least 18 years old due to the use of heavy machinery, possessing a high school diploma or equivalent, and being flexible with work shifts including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and overnight hours. The company may require passing physical and written culinary skills tests to ensure competency. This comprehensive role offers an opportunity to work in a supportive environment where safety, quality, and customer satisfaction are paramount.
