Job Description
American Cruise Lines is the largest cruise line operating in the United States, renowned for delivering authentic and immersive river cruising experiences. The company manages a diverse fleet of vessels ranging from modern riverboats to classic paddlewheel steamboats that navigate across various American rivers. With a focus on showcasing America’s rich history, culture, and scenic beauty, American Cruise Lines offers unique itineraries that cater to travelers seeking an exceptional maritime adventure. Each journey promises a blend of comfort, luxury, and discovery, upheld by a dedicated shipboard team committed to superior guest service and safety. The company upholds core values including optimism, commitment, patriotism, and merit, which create a strong organizational culture centered around collaboration and excellence. Employment with American Cruise Lines comes with competitive compensation, including a daily rate, as well as comprehensive benefits such as health, dental, vision insurance, and a 401(k) plan with company matching. Additional covered expenses include travel, room and board, uniforms, and training, ensuring employees can focus on their work and growth while onboard. This particular role is full-time and exempt, involving a demanding yet rewarding work schedule on America’s rivers throughout the 2026 season.
The Line Cook position aboard American Cruise Lines’ vessels is a vital part of the culinary team. These ships operate with a high standard of food production across all meal services—breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Line Cooks work closely with Executive and Sous Chefs to prepare diversified menus inspired by fresh, locally sourced ingredients and regional specialties, always aiming to provide a first-class dining experience. The role requires both culinary skill and efficiency to maintain smooth kitchen operations in a fast-paced, dynamic environment constantly affected by river conditions. Candidates will love working in well-equipped galleys that offer spectacular views, and they will experience a team-oriented workplace focused on hygiene, food safety, and exceptional guest satisfaction. The job entails organizing workload, maintaining discipline in the kitchen, adhering to dietary requests, and enforcing food safety standards rigorously. Successful Line Cooks have minimum two years of experience in full-service culinary settings such as resorts, country clubs, hotels, or restaurants, and are proficient in preparing all meal types. They demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, time management, leadership, interpersonal communication, and maintain composure under pressure. The physical demands of the role require the ability to stand for long hours, lift heavy items, and adapt to the ship’s continuous movement. Candidates must pass a pre-employment drug test, criminal background check, and hold a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC). The position offers an engaging career path for chefs passionate about delivering exquisite food experiences while living and working aboard some of America’s finest ships, sharing the story of America’s rivers in a unique and memorable way.
