Job Description

The hiring establishment is a reputable healthcare and residential dining service provider that prioritizes resident satisfaction through high-quality food preparation and service. This role is situated within a professional kitchen environment, typically overseen by a Chef, Food Service Manager, and Director of Food Service. The organization prides itself on delivering nutritious, well-prepared meals tailored specifically to meet the dietary needs of residents, especially those in healthcare settings. They follow strict food codes and procedures to ensure safety, flavor, and consistency across all meals served in their dining rooms and healthcare centers. The establishment is committed to maintaining high standards in both food quality and service, aiming to enrich the dining pleasure of every resident they serve.

This job opportunity is for a Cook position which operates under the general supervision of the Chef on duty. The role involves preparing, seasoning, and cooking a wide array of food items including soups, meats, vegetables, desserts, sauces, stews, and casseroles. The Cook will cater to the needs of both the general dining room customers and residents in the Health Care Center, ensuring all meals conform to specific dietary requirements and the food code worksheet. This includes preparing special diets as prescribed for residents requiring particular nutritional considerations.

In addition to cooking, the Cook is responsible for estimating food requirements based on the menu and procuring ingredients from storage units such as freezers and refrigerators. Equipped with knowledge of regulating cooking temperatures using ovens, broilers, grills, roasters, and steam kettles, the Cook will skillfully prepare food while monitoring its quality through taste, smell, and visual assessment to guarantee well-seasoned and fully cooked dishes. The position also involves meat carving, portioning food on serving plates, and adding appropriate gravies, sauces and garnishes to complete each serving.

The role extends beyond primary cooking duties to include supporting activities like washing, peeling, cutting, and shredding fruits and vegetables, trimming meats, baking breads and pastries, and assisting on the line with tasks such as tray setup and salad preparation. Maintaining the cleanliness and orderly arrangement of the work area is also a key responsibility. The Cook may be required to perform additional tasks as assigned by supervisory food service staff, which could range from marginal to essential depending on staffing needs.

This position is a non-military, civilian role and requires successful completion of pre-employment requirements such as a criminal background check and drug screening in alignment with regulatory and accrediting bodies. While specific employment type and salary details are not stated explicitly, the role demands dedication to quality, teamwork, and adherence to health and safety standards, making it an ideal opportunity for individuals passionate about culinary arts within a healthcare or residential community setting. The Cook will play an integral part in enhancing resident satisfaction by consistently delivering excellent culinary experiences that combine taste, nutrition, and presentation.
