The Oakland Yacht Club is currently seeking a talented Line Cook to join the culinary team. This role is vital in preparing delicious and beautifully presented meals that meet the high standards of the club's members. The ideal candidate will be experienced in the culinary arts, creative in meal preparation, and dedicated to maintaining hygiene and safety standards. As a Line Cook, you will work closely with the head chef and kitchen staff to ensure that all meals are produced according to established standards and tailored to members' desires. You will be responsible for setting up the kitchen with the necessary tools, preparing and presenting food attractively for both plated and buffet-style meals, and maintaining inventory levels. The role requires a strong focus on cleanliness and organization of your workstation and prep areas, as well as strict adherence to sanitation and food safety regulations mandated by health authorities and OSHA.

Further responsibilities include participating in daily kitchen opening and closing procedures and performing additional duties as assigned by management.   • ServeSafe or Food Handler’s Certification
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos in English
  • Able to communicate with others to convey information effectively in English
  • Comprehend basic culinary terms and techniques of prepping and cooking
  • Ability to remain calm and thrive under pressure
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Must possess knife skills and the ability to adjust preparations for flavor and accommodate customers' needs promptly
  • Able to cook proteins to pre-determined temperatures
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including standing for long periods and lifting up to 40 pounds

Job Duties

  • Produce meals according to established standards and members' desires
  • Set up the kitchen with the necessary tools and equipment
  • Prepare and present food appealingly for both plated and buffet meals
  • Maintain appropriate levels of inventory and restock when necessary
  • Maintain a clean and organized workstation and prep area
  • Responsible for adherence to standards for sanitation and safe food handling by the health department and OSHA
  • Participate in daily kitchen opening and closing procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the head chef or management
