Job Description

Join our vibrant and dynamic team as a Lifeguard & Member Services Manager, a pivotal role that ensures the safety, satisfaction, and seamless operation of our aquatic facility. Our organization manages a popular pool that serves as a hub for community engagement, health, recreation, and social events from Memorial Day through Labor Day each year. Although the pool season officially runs during these summer months, the chosen candidate will begin in early April to spearhead staffing and training efforts, ensuring the team is fully prepared for the busy season ahead.

We pride ourselves on offering a welcoming, safe, and enjoyable environment for all pool patrons, swim team families, and visitors. As the Lifeguard & Member Services Manager, you will be at the forefront of this mission, leading and motivating the entire lifeguard staff while also being the principal liaison for members, ensuring their needs, concerns, and questions are addressed promptly and professionally. This is not a typical full-time role in terms of presence; you will be expected at the pool multiple times per week, but not daily, with availability to check in as necessary. You will also play a vital role during special events such as the Season Opening Party on Memorial Day, July 4th celebrations, the End of Season Party on Labor Day, and occasional night swims and movie nights.

In this managerial position, you will be responsible for recruiting, training, and supervising a team of lifeguards, ensuring that all certifications including American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR, AED, and First Aid are up to date. You will manage the scheduling, confirm staffing needs, and coordinate staff meetings, training sessions, and social events to build a cohesive team. As the primary member liaison, you will handle incident reporting, enforce pool rules tactfully and effectively, and manage communication between lifeguards and patrons to guarantee a safe swimming environment.

A significant part of your role involves working closely with the Pool Board and the Swim Team leadership. This collaboration is essential for coordinating lane usage for swim meets or practices and for organizing staffing for member events and clubhouse parties. Beyond operational duties, you will ensure that concession and clubhouse supplies are well-stocked, overseeing the ordering and inventory of necessary items from trash bags to paper products.

Administrative tasks will also be a key component of your job, including updating the Lifeguard Handbook and submitting monthly staff schedules to the Pool Board. This position demands strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and the ability to remain calm and decisive in emergencies, providing clear direction and reassurance to staff and patrons alike.

The ideal candidate will bring 3 to 5 years of lifeguarding experience, preferably including supervisory roles and customer service experience. You should be adept at conflict resolution, capable of enforcing pool rules politely yet firmly, and skilled in mentoring a young workforce, often comprised of high school and college students. Your ability to lead during emergency situations with a steady hand and clear communication will be critical in maintaining our community’s trust and safety.

If you are passionate about aquatic safety, community engagement, and fostering a fun yet secure environment, this is the perfect opportunity to take your leadership and lifeguarding career to the next level. Join us in ensuring our pool is not just a place for swimming, but a vibrant community center where every member feels valued, safe, and inspired.
