The Leader-in-Training (LIT) program at ABC Fine Wine & Spirits is designed to cultivate the next generation of store leaders. This hands-on, developmental role provides team members with comprehensive training and real-world experience necessary to lead store operations effectively. Working closely with current Team Leaders and the District Manager, LITs gain insight into critical management functions like inventory control, visual merchandising, cash control, staff scheduling, and performance management. The program targets completion within six months, preparing candidates to step into Assistant Store Leader or Store Leader positions upon successful completion and leadership approval.

Participants in this program undertake rigorous training schedules that include competency checklists, attendance of training sessions and meetings, and travel to other stores as directed. The role develops essential supervisory skills such as delegation, training, discipline, and decision-making, alongside operational responsibilities like opening and closing stores and managing shipments. The LIT position is fast-paced and requires flexibility, ensuring that candidates develop the agility needed to thrive in dynamic retail environments. Job Requirements

  • Maintain regular and predictable onsite attendance
  • Continuously stand and move about for extended periods
  • Frequently bend, lift, and twist to move product and assist with merchandising
  • Frequently lift and/or transport up to 40 lbs. throughout the store and stockroom
  • Occasionally perform overhead lifting to place or retrieve items from high shelves
  • Occasionally use ladders and step stools to access merchandise stored at varying heights
  • Frequently move between sales floor, stockroom, and exterior areas of the store
  • Frequently visually inspect product labels, signage, and displays to ensure accuracy and presentation
  • Frequently detect and respond to visual cues such as Guest gestures, product placement, or safety hazards
  • Occasionally work in or with elevated locations and tools such as ladders and stockroom
  • Occasionally be exposed to outdoor weather conditions while maintaining the property or assisting Guests
  • Occasionally be exposed to fumes or airborne particles when using cleaning solutions or supplies
  • Occasionally be exposed to refrigerated temperatures when stocking or retrieving product in the cooler
  • Continuously work in a moderate noise level environment

Job Qualifications

  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • At least 6 months of retail leadership experience or a combination of 2 years of education in Business Management or a related field and equivalent experience
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as business needs demand

Job Duties

  • Demonstrate ABC’s core values with guests and team members every day
  • Complete all training within the LIT program targeting completion in 6 months or less
  • Follow training timelines and competency checklists to ensure progression
  • Attend all LIT training sessions and meetings as scheduled
  • Travel to other stores as planned by the District Manager or LIT Program Manager
  • Identify opportunities to grow sales and enhance store operations
  • Help ensure consistent visual and operational merchandising standards
  • Develop knowledge in inventory control, replenishment, and merchandising
  • Perform key management tasks such as opening/closing the store, cash control, and receiving shipments
  • Build supervisory skills including delegation, scheduling, training, performance management, and discipline
  • Attend mandatory company training and participate in off-site or remote meetings
  • Support company-wide initiatives such as resets, remodels, new store openings, and in-store events
  • Communicate regularly with the District Manager, LIT Program Manager, and HR Business Partner about program progress and store needs
  • Support a clean and safe store environment
  • Upon program completion and leadership approval, apply to open Assistant Store Leader or Store Leader positions
  • Make sound business decisions and escalate when necessary
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the District Manager or LIT Program Manager
