Job Description
The City of West Sacramento is a vibrant and community-oriented municipality located in California, dedicated to providing high-quality public services and recreational opportunities to its residents. The Parks and Recreation Department plays a pivotal role in enhancing the community's quality of life by offering diverse programs, facilities, and events designed to promote health, engagement, and social interaction. Among its numerous facilities, the West Sacramento Community Center stands out as a hub for cultural and recreational activities, offering spaces like the Black Box Theater that host a variety of events, performances, and community programs.
The City of West Sacramento is currently seeking an experienced, motivated, and enthusiastic Lead Recreation Leader to join its Parks and Recreation and Community Center team. This is a part-time, extra help position ideal for someone passionate about recreation programming and community service. The Lead Recreation Leader will be entrusted with the management of the day-to-day operations of the Black Box Theater, a premier cultural venue within the Community Center. The role demands a hands-on leader capable of overseeing the facility’s daily functions, from scheduling to maintenance coordination, while also playing a key role in the planning, organization, marketing, and evaluation of various youth and adult-oriented recreational activities and special community events.
The successful candidate will exercise direct supervision over assigned extra help employees and volunteers, ensuring that all staff are trained, guided, and supported in delivering excellent service to the public. This position is distinguished by its requirement for greater independence and judgment compared to other recreation leader roles, reflecting the complexity and scale of responsibilities, including managing facility use calendars, conducting administrative and clerical tasks, and promoting programs through modern marketing techniques. The Lead Recreation Leader will collaborate with department supervisors, assist with the computer registration programs, and contribute to community engagement efforts, fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for all participants.
Working for the City of West Sacramento means being a part of a dedicated team focused on enhancing community life through active engagement and diverse programming. Candidates must be prepared to work in various settings, sometimes outdoors, and may need to attend off-hour meetings. The role also includes physical demands such as standing, walking, bending, and occasionally lifting light weights. In addition, employees must pass a fingerprint check and drug screening as part of the hiring process. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a thriving community, delivering memorable and enriching experiences to residents while promoting the use of public recreational facilities in safe, responsive, and innovative ways. The Lead Recreation Leader role is perfect for individuals who thrive in dynamic environments and are committed to making a positive impact through recreation and community development services.
