Job Description
Pilot Company is a leading network of travel centers and fuel stations across North America, proudly operating more than 750 retail and fueling locations in 44 states and six provinces in Canada. Since its establishment in 1958 by Jim A. Haslam II, Pilot Company has grown to employ over 30,000 team members, becoming a key player in the energy and logistics sector. With a diverse portfolio encompassing supply chain and retail operations, transportation logistics, technology innovation, construction, maintenance, finance, sales, and marketing, Pilot Company has built a reputation for excellence and reliability. The company is committed to fostering a people-first culture and embodies strong foundational values that emphasize community involvement and consistent support for its team and customers. Under the leadership of CEO Adam Wright, Pilot Company continues to expand and innovate, maintaining its mission to fuel people and keep North America moving efficiently.
The role of Shift Leader at Pilot Company involves overseeing the smooth operation of merchandise and fuel transactions during assigned shifts. This position is integral to ensuring excellent customer service and maintaining operational efficiency. The Shift Leader leads one to two cashiers, guiding them in processing various payment types including cash, credit, and debit, and completing end-of-shift reports and closeout procedures accurately. Attention to compliance with company and local regulations is essential, especially concerning the sale of restricted items like alcohol and tobacco. Maintaining a clean and organized work environment is a key responsibility, as is promoting sales through suggested selling techniques.
Shift Leaders are expected to handle any guest complaints or issues by following company guidelines, effectively resolving conflicts among team members, and communicating with management as necessary. They are also responsible for managing break schedules and team member placements to optimize productivity during their shift. In addition to cashier oversight, the role involves assisting in various other travel center functions, such as stocking, cleaning restrooms and showers, and making coffee, demonstrating versatility and leadership by modeling the company’s core behaviors and commitment to guest and team member support. Adherence to all company rules, policies, and procedures is mandatory, along with completing any additional tasks assigned to support overall operations.
Starting pay for this position ranges between $12.60 to $17.85 per hour, reflecting the company’s recognition of the value contributed by dedicated employees. Pilot Company offers a comprehensive benefits package including fuel discounts, nationwide medical, dental, and vision plans, 401(k) retirement savings plans, flexible spending accounts, adoption assistance, tuition reimbursement, flexible scheduling, and weekly pay. This role is ideal for individuals who thrive in a dynamic environment, enjoy customer interaction, and are eager to contribute to one of the most respected organizations in the travel and energy industries. Military applicants are encouraged to apply, reflecting Pilot Company’s inclusive hiring practices and respect for diverse backgrounds and experiences. The company is committed to equal employment opportunities for all qualified applicants regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, or other protected classifications under federal, state, or local laws.
