Job Description
Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) is a well-established educational institution dedicated to providing quality education and excellent student services. Among its diverse campus operations is a vibrant dining services department, which includes a coffee shop and café that cater to students, faculty, and visitors. The coffee shop offers high-quality coffee beverages and food in a welcoming and fast-paced environment, emphasizing customer satisfaction and efficient service. This department plays an important role in creating a positive daily experience on campus by delivering quality refreshments and fostering community interaction.
The position of Coffee Shop Supervisor at OCCC is a key role within the dining services team, charged with overseeing the day-to-day operations of the coffee shop and café. This involves not only ensuring the preparation of premium coffee drinks and food items but also managing a dedicated team comprised of baristas, cashiers, and student workers. The supervisor is responsible for maintaining high standards of customer service, managing inventory effectively, reconciling daily cash balances, and upholding cleanliness and organization throughout the workspace.
Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Coffee Shop Supervisor is expected to guide and support team members by providing onboarding, training, and ongoing supervision. The role requires a keen attention to detail in both food and beverage preparation and in administrative functions such as sales reporting and cash handling. Exceptional communication skills are vital, as the supervisor frequently interacts with a diverse range of individuals, including college administration, faculty, staff, and students.
The position demands the ability to adapt to a dynamic work environment, manage multiple simultaneous tasks, and maintain compliance with health and safety regulations, including food safety standards. Candidates should have at least one year of experience working in similar positions such as a barista or cashier with supervisory responsibilities and experience handling cash transactions. Familiarity with inventory management systems and point-of-sale (POS) operations is also essential.
Physical demands of the role include light physical work such as lifting up to 25 pounds, frequent standing, walking, and performing repetitive hand movements involved in beverage preparation and cash register operation. The supervisor must maintain a high level of quality control, ensuring the coffee shop’s product offerings meet established standards and efficiently resolve any guest concerns or conflicts.
OCCC values professionalism and dedication in its staff and provides ongoing compliance training to keep the team current with institutional policies and food safety requirements. The working hours span Monday through Friday for a 40-hour workweek, with scheduling flexibility between 6 AM and 6 PM to cover the coffee shop’s operational needs. The role offers the opportunity to contribute to the vibrant campus life by enhancing the coffee shop experience for the college community while developing leadership skills in a collegiate hospitality environment.
