Job Description
GDIT, or General Dynamics Information Technology, is a global technology and professional services company serving every major agency across the U.S. government, defense, and intelligence sectors. Boasting a workforce of over 30,000 experts functionally spread across more than 50 countries worldwide, GDIT leverages cutting-edge technology and deep expertise to deliver mission-critical solutions that drive digital modernization, artificial intelligence, machine learning, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and application development. The company is committed to fostering a safer and smarter world by innovating with purpose and working shoulder-to-shoulder with public sector clients to secure the nation's safety and security. GDIT offers comprehensive career development resources including paid education, certifications, internal mobility programs, and advanced technology learning environments, all supported by a robust benefits program tailored to meet the needs of its employees.
The role of Lead Firearms Instructor (LFI) is a pivotal position within GDIT’s security training operations, working specifically with Federal Flight Deck Officers (FFDOs). As the first point of contact at the training venue, LFIs act as the on-site training managers responsible for the smooth, safe, and effective execution of firearms training programs. LFIs check-in FFDOs upon arrival, perform thorough verification of weapons and credentials, conduct classroom and range training, and uphold strict safety, compliance, and administrative protocols. The position demands expertise in firearms handling, training, and assessment, as LFIs deliver the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) approved curriculum and maintain a strict instructor-to-student ratio to ensure quality instruction and safety. LFIs also handle sensitive security information, manage training supplies, oversee equipment inventory, and are entrusted with secure handling of sensitive personally identifiable information in compliance with federal policies.
This role requires individuals to exercise sound judgment, leadership, and comprehensive knowledge of firearm safety procedures and training methodologies. The work environment includes indoor and outdoor firing ranges, necessitating the use of personal protective equipment such as hearing and eye protection due to exposure to loud noise and gunpowder residue. LFIs must be physically capable of managing light equipment and comply with health, safety, and regulatory standards. This opportunity is ideal for experienced federal law enforcement instructors or similarly qualified personnel seeking to apply their firearms expertise in a high-impact federal program. The pay range for this position is estimated between $30.44 and $41.18 per hour, depending on experience and location, and is supported with comprehensive health and wellness benefits, professional growth opportunities, and the chance to be part of a respected global government contractor dedicated to national security.
