Job Description
Vistar is a leading distributor in the United States specializing in the delivery of candy, snacks, and beverages. With over 25 distribution centers nationwide, Vistar plays a crucial role in ensuring that a wide variety of food and related products reach customers efficiently. The company has built a strong reputation through a commitment to innovation, surpassing customer expectations, and fostering a collaborative work environment that emphasizes teamwork, ethical practices, and community involvement. Vistar’s diverse customer base spans multiple sectors, delivering goods to locations where people work, play, and shop, reflecting the company’s broad market reach and essential position in America’s food distribution system.
The role of Lead Driver at Vistar is integral to maintaining this extensive delivery network. This position requires a dynamic professional who not only drives tractor trailers or straight trucks on local, overnight, and over-the-road routes but also provides leadership and support to assigned driver teams, typically at remote shuttle yards. The Lead Driver is responsible for managing day-to-day activities including scheduling, training, and onboarding new hires, performing safety inspections, and resolving customer delivery concerns. This dual function of hands-on driving combined with team oversight ensures that all deliveries are executed safely, on time, and in compliance with company policies and Department of Transportation regulations.
The position demands a high level of professionalism and communication skills as the Lead Driver interacts regularly with customers, vendors, and other employees to uphold superior customer service standards. Safety is paramount; the role involves meticulous pre- and post-trip inspections to verify vehicle compliance with DOT requirements and company safety protocols. Additionally, the Lead Driver ensures freight is properly loaded, secured, and documented, maintains route schedules, and oversees the unloading of products with care to manage product integrity and customer satisfaction. The role also includes administrative responsibilities such as record-keeping of hours of service and maintaining a clean, organized working environment.
Employees in this role can expect competitive pay and a comprehensive benefits package including day one health and wellness benefits, an employee stock purchase plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, and paid time off. Vistar is committed to creating a safe and inclusive workplace where recognition and respect are foundational. The company prioritizes career growth opportunities within a culture that values essential work supporting the food distribution system. This full-time role is perfect for candidates who value both operational excellence and leadership in a fast-paced logistics environment dedicated to excellence and service.
