The Lead Cashier (LC) role at Ulta Beauty is pivotal in ensuring an efficient and exceptional guest transaction experience while upholding the highest standards of cashwrap cleanliness and aesthetics. Serving as a proactive leader at the register, the LC not only handles daily cashiering duties but also assists in training new cashiers and cross-training other associates. This position demands a strong focus on performance metrics, including sales, guest loyalty and credit, and retail shrink, requiring the LC to be attentive to both customer interactions and operational processes. The Lead Cashier is instrumental in driving guest loyalty results by promoting Ulta Beauty's loyalty lifecycle and credit offerings, ensuring every guest interaction is personalized and memorable.

Additionally, the LC supports the leadership team with critical operational tasks such as opening and closing the register, conducting associate exit inspections, and facilitating cashier communication during shift changes. The position requires flexibility to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, and candidates must be at least 18 years old.

Job Requirements

  • Work a flexible schedule to include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • The role of Lead Cashier cannot be held by a minor
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Ability to continuously move throughout the store during shift including twisting
  • Frequent bending, pulling, pushing, crouching, stooping, twisting, and reaching during shift
  • Frequent lifting or moving of up to 25 lbs. during shift
  • Continuous coordination and manipulation of objects during shift

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma preferred
  • 2 years of relevant work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred
  • Proven ability to delegate, multi-task, and problem-solve
  • Demonstrated knowledge and passion for guest service and competency for selling
  • Experience in addressing guest concerns promptly and professionally
  • Demonstrated experience in exceeding sales goals and training new hires
  • Proficient with basic technology such as Point of Sale system and Apple devices
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships
  • Ability to react under pressure, use good judgment in ambiguous situations, and be flexible and adaptable

Job Duties

  • Contribute to meeting or exceeding the store’s goals related to retail and service sales, omni-channel, guest loyalty including credit, and retail shrink
  • Ensure that each guest receives exceptional service by providing a guest-friendly environment including greeting and engaging each guest and personalizing service to their needs
  • Courteously handle sales, refunds, and exchanges
  • Ensure each guest receives exceptional service by pairing them with an associate for makeup applications, skincare analysis, and product demonstrations
  • Book appointments for and support the execution of services and in-store events
  • Take ownership over the replenishment, organization, and maintenance of all cashwrap displays, supplies, and impulse fixtures
  • Support the leadership team by completing cashier chat ins and chat outs and associate exit inspections
  • Take initiative to stay informed about industry trends, products, and services to better serve guests
  • Share the benefits of the guest loyalty program including credit and the Ulta Beauty app with guests and lead associates to do the same
  • Assist in the training of new cashiers and cross-training other associates in cashiering
  • Drive cashier accountability in delivering an exceptional, personalized Ulta Beauty brand experience
  • Regularly participate in ongoing training including brand and category education
  • Collaborate with managers and associates to help grow the business
  • Comply with Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards
  • Adhere to the dress code
  • Ensure the completion of all transactions and proper control of all cash and media at the cashwrap
  • Complete select register open and close functions as directed
  • Maintain outstanding store standards and overall cleanliness throughout the store
  • Protect company assets and minimize loss by ensuring all store standards and operating procedures are met
  • Execute other operational tasks as directed
