The Lead Cashier (LC) at Ulta Beauty plays a pivotal role in ensuring a smooth and enjoyable checkout process while upholding the highest cash wrap standards. This position demands a leader who is experienced in cashier responsibilities and can efficiently manage transactions, maintain workspace aesthetics, and train new cashiers as well as cross-train other associates. The role combines performance accountability in sales, guest experience, and loyalty program execution with people management skills focused on guest service and associate development.

As a key team member, the Lead Cashier contributes directly to the store’s goals by motivating and engaging their peers to deliver exceptional service. This includes creating a guest-friendly environment by greeting and personalizing service, handling sales transactions with professionalism, and encouraging the use of Ulta Beauty’s loyalty program. The Lead Cashier also takes ownership of operational processes, ensuring compliance with company policy and maintaining store cleanliness and store standards. Additionally, this role supports managerial functions such as register opening and closing, cashier chat ins/outs, and associate exit inspections.

Job Requirements

  • Work a flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Continuous mobility during shifts including twisting, bending, pulling, pushing, crouching, stooping, and reaching
  • Frequent lifting and moving up to 25 lbs
  • Ability to perform cashier tasks and maintain operational compliance

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma preferred
  • 2 years of relevant work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred
  • Proven ability to delegate, multi-task, and problem-solve
  • Demonstrated knowledge and passion for guest service and selling
  • Experience addressing guests concerns and questions professionally
  • Demonstrated experience in exceeding sales goals and training new hires
  • Proficient with basic technology such as Point of Sale systems and Apple devices
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships
  • Ability to react under pressure, use good judgment, and be adaptable

Job Duties

  • Contribute to meeting or exceeding the store’s goals related to retail and service sales, omni-channel, guest loyalty (including credit), and retail shrink
  • Ensure that each guest receives exceptional service by providing a guest-friendly environment including greeting and engaging each guest
  • Courteously handle sales, refunds, and exchanges
  • Book appointments and support the execution of services and in-store events
  • Take ownership over the replenishment, organization, and maintenance of all cashwrap displays, supplies, and impulse fixtures
  • Assist in the training of new cashiers and cross-training other associates
  • Maintain outstanding store standards and overall store cleanliness throughout the store
