The Lead Cashier role at Ulta Beauty is a vital position responsible for ensuring efficient guest transactions and upholding excellence at the cashwrap area, including maintaining cleanliness and overall aesthetics. This role demands someone experienced in cashiering, who can assist in training new cashiers and cross-training other associates. The Lead Cashier serves as a proactive collaborator and influencer among peers, focusing on driving performance in sales, guest experience, and loyalty programs, while supporting people through associate training and development efforts. Additionally, the Lead Cashier supports store leadership with opening and closing register functions, cashier accountability, and operational compliance.

The position requires a passion for delivering exceptional guest experiences, process excellence, and a proactive approach to achieving store goals, including sales and loyalty milestones. The Lead Cashier champions Ulta Beauty's brand by ensuring every guest is greeted warmly, engaged personally, and matched with services and products tailored to their needs. This role also manages the replenishment and organization of cashwrap displays to create a guest-ready environment at all times.

As a leader, the Lead Cashier helps create an inclusive, supportive environment for teammates and guests alike. Responsibilities also include staying informed about industry trends and product knowledge to better educate guests and associates, leading cashier accountability for Ulta Beauty’s brand standards, and participating regularly in ongoing training for continuous professional growth.

Job Requirements

  • Work a flexible schedule to include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Must be 18 years of age or older to hold the Lead Cashier position
  • Ability to continuously move throughout the store during shift including twisting
  • Frequent bending, pulling, pushing, crouching, stooping, twisting, and reaching during shift
  • Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 25 lbs during shift
  • Ability to coordinate and manipulate objects continuously during shift

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma is preferred
  • 2 years of relevant work experience or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience preferred
  • Proven ability to delegate, multi-task, and problem-solve
  • Demonstrated knowledge and passion for guest service and a competency for selling
  • Experience addressing guests concerns and questions promptly and professionally
  • Demonstrated experience in exceeding sales goals and training new hires
  • Proficient with basic technology such as Point of Sale systems and Apple devices
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships
  • Ability to react under pressure, use good judgment, and be flexible/adaptable

Job Duties

  • Contribute to meeting or exceeding the store’s goals related to retail and service sales, omni-channel, guest loyalty including credit, and retail shrink
  • Ensure that each guest receives exceptional service by providing a guest-friendly environment including greeting and engaging each guest, personalizing service to their needs, and recommending Ulta Beauty products and/or services
  • Courteously handle sales, refunds, and exchanges
  • Ensure each guest receives exceptional service by pairing them with an associate to perform makeup applications, skincare analysis, and product demonstrations
  • Book appointments for and support the execution of services and in-store events that deliver an unrivaled guest experience
  • Take ownership over the replenishment, organization, and maintenance of all cashwrap displays, supplies, and impulse fixtures
  • Maintain prompt, regular attendance
  • Contribute to an inclusive environment that supports teammates, peers, and guests
  • Support the leadership team by completing cashier chat ins and chat outs and associate exit inspections as needed
  • Stay informed regarding new and existing industry trends, products, and services
  • Share the benefits of the guest loyalty program including credit and the Ulta Beauty app with guests and lead associates to do the same
  • Assist in training new cashiers, and cross-training other associates
  • Engage and influence peers to achieve peak productivity and performance
  • Drive cashier accountability in delivering an exceptional, personalized Ulta Beauty brand experience
  • Participate regularly in ongoing training to enable continuous professional development and drive sales performance
  • Collaborate with managers and associates to help grow the business
  • Ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards
  • Adhere to Ulta Beauty’s dress code
  • Complete all transactions including guest returns and associate transactions with proper cash and media control
  • Complete select register open and close functions as directed
  • Maintain outstanding store standards and overall cleanliness including cashwrap, sales floor, restrooms, backroom, and break area
  • Protect company assets and minimize loss by ensuring all store standards and procedures are met
  • Execute other operational tasks as directed
