Job Description

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is a world-renowned pediatric treatment and research facility focused on catastrophic diseases in children. Recognized globally for pioneering advancements in pediatric medicine, St. Jude provides an inspiring and supportive environment dedicated to saving children's lives. The hospital combines cutting-edge medical care with compassionate service to impact the lives of families worldwide. As a non-profit institution, St. Jude is committed not only to clinical excellence but also to community engagement and staff development.

Positioned within the hospital’s food and beverage operations, the Lead Barista role is crucial to the daily success and smooth functioning of the coffee shop. This role oversees shift operations, upholding high standards of quality, cleanliness, and customer service excellence. The Lead Barista acts as a peer leader, mentoring and training fellow baristas to maintain consistency in product and service delivery. Beyond the foundational responsibilities, the Lead Barista takes on leadership duties in the absence of the Supervisor. This includes coordinating shift activities, managing inventory, and ensuring compliance with strict food safety and sanitation protocols that align with St. Jude’s institutional policies.

The role requires exceptional organizational skills and the ability to respond to operational challenges proactively. The Lead Barista is entrusted with maintaining accurate records, supervising proper storage of deliveries, and facilitating communication between the team and management. This involves capturing customer feedback, recommending potential menu improvements, and ensuring a clean and inviting environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Furthermore, the position demands a deep familiarity with food service regulations and a dedication to upholding these standards at all times.

This position is a full-time role, scheduled Monday through Friday from 6:45 am to 3:15 pm, providing a dependable work routine. The Lead Barista receives compensation within the range of $19.50 to $33.00 per hour, reflecting experience, certifications, and performance. Working at St. Jude also means access to a suite of exceptional employee benefits designed to support both personal and professional growth.

Employees in this role benefit from immersive training opportunities, including certification programs like the Certified Food Protection Manager and Starbucks Barista Trainer Certification, which must be obtained within designated periods. Additionally, ongoing participation in the coffee academy program enhances skill development and expertise. The physical demands of this position require stamina, the ability to stand and move for extended periods, and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds. Despite these challenges, the role offers a dynamic and rewarding workspace with moderate noise levels and an emphasis on safety and health compliance.

Overall, the Lead Barista at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital not only plays a key part in delivering exceptional food and beverage service amidst a healthcare setting but also embodies the institution’s commitment to quality, leadership, and community impact. This multifaceted position provides suitable candidates an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to a globally respected philanthropic organization while advancing their hospitality career within a supportive and mission-driven environment.
