The role of Lead Barista at The Coffee Class is an exciting opportunity to lead and inspire a team within this dynamic and fun coffee culture. This position offers both full-time and part-time opportunities, with a competitive pay rate ranging from $14.00 to $16.00 per hour, along with the chance to earn tips on top of the hourly wage. The Lead Barista is pivotal in maintaining the high standards for coffee quality and service that The Coffee Class is known for. This individual will set a positive and energetic tone during shifts, ensuring the team remains guest-focused and efficient. Responsibilities include managing team deployment, break schedules, and shift priorities, as well as handling guest recovery when necessary. The role requires a thorough understanding of coffee preparation techniques, including espresso dialing, grinder calibration, milk texturing, and latte art. Additionally, the Lead Barista is instrumental in onboarding new baristas and coaching existing team members to continuously elevate their performance and service skills.

Beyond the bar, the Lead Barista maintains cleanliness and side work standards, tracks inventory, assists with ordering supplies, and ensures equipment is well-maintained to support smooth operations. This leadership position requires strong communication skills, organizational ability, reliability, and the capacity to remain calm under pressure. Job Qualifications

  • 1-2 years barista experience
  • prior shift lead experience preferred
  • strong espresso skills including dial-in, calibration, milk texturing, latte art

  • organized, reliable, calm under pressure, and holds self and others to high standards
  • availability for early mornings, weekends, and consistent attendance

Job Duties

  • Set a positive, high-energy tone during shifts and keep the team guest-first and focused
  • manage team deployment, breaks, and shift priorities efficiently
  • handle guest recovery with care and escalate issues appropriately
  • onboard and coach baristas, reinforcing recipes, service steps, and upselling techniques
  • provide clear, constructive feedback and recognize excellent performance
  • complete opening/closing tasks and maintain cleanliness and side work standards
  • track inventory levels, assist with ordering, and maintain equipment
  • dial in espresso, calibrate grinders, and ensure consistent drink quality
  • lead by example on the bar, managing flow and pacing during busy times
  • quality check drinks and pastry plating
  • coach barista techniques including latte art
