Job Description

Our facility is a comprehensive care establishment dedicated to providing exceptional services to its residents, with a strong emphasis on maintaining a safe, clean, and healthy environment. As part of our commitment to quality and excellence, we operate a fully equipped Laundry Department that plays an essential role in ensuring residents receive clean, sanitized linens, garments, and laundry on a daily basis. The role of the Laundry Aide within our facility is vital to the overall well-being and comfort of our residents. This position requires the individual to perform daily functions that keep the laundry services running smoothly while adhering strictly to safety and sanitation standards. The Laundry Aide is responsible for sorting soiled laundry, treating special stains, laundering, drying, folding, and distributing clean laundry and linens to residents, all while maintaining the cleanliness of the laundry area and equipment. This role is carried out under the guidance and supervision of the Laundry Supervisor and other management personnel including the Director of Housekeeping, ensuring that the team meets operational goals and maintains a safe working environment.

This position demands a person who can execute duties with a high level of attention to detail and commitment to maintaining infection control protocols. The Laundry Aide must handle infectious garments and linens using appropriate protective clothing and devices, and assist during emergency conditions by ensuring the proper distribution of clean laundry to designated areas. The role includes ongoing responsibilities such as reporting any equipment malfunctions or hazards, maintaining confidentiality regarding resident information, and participating in educational training and department meetings to stay informed of best practices in laundry care and safety.

Individuals in this position must be physically capable of managing the demands of the job, including lifting and moving laundry items weighing up to 25 pounds, and performing cleaning tasks that involve sweeping, mopping, and disinfecting various surfaces throughout the laundry facility. Job Requirements

  • Minimum age of eighteen (18) years
  • at least an 8th grade education
  • ability to make independent decisions when necessary
  • ability to deal tactfully with diverse groups including personnel, residents, families, visitors, and government entities
  • capability to maintain supplies, equipment and cleanliness of work areas
  • skill in conducting regular sanitation, safety, and order inspections in laundry environment

Job Qualifications

  • Must be a minimum of eighteen (18) years of age
  • must possess as a minimum an 8th grade education
  • must demonstrate the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action
  • must demonstrate the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public
  • must maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, appearance of work areas
  • must perform regular inspections of the laundry area and equipment for sanitation, order, safety and proper performance of assigned duties

Job Duties

  • Support the facility's philosophy of care and strive to achieve its goals and objectives
  • sort soiled laundry, linen, garments, etc. and place in appropriate containers or assigned areas in the laundry room
  • sort soiled laundry, linen, garments, etc. and separate those items that require special stain removal/treatment
  • wash and dry soiled laundry, linen, garments, etc. in accordance with established procedures
  • fold, count, stack, hang, and distribute clean laundry, linen, garments, etc. to residents daily and/or as instructed
  • clean laundry room floors, including sweeping and damp/wet mopping
  • clean walls and ceilings of laundry rooms by washing, wiping, dusting, spot cleaning, disinfecting, and deodorizing
  • remove dirt, dust, lint, grease, film, etc. from equipment and floor surfaces using proper cleaning/disinfecting solutions
  • during emergency conditions, assure that clean laundry, linen, garments, etc. are distributed to designated areas as instructed
  • turn in all unidentified laundry, linen, garments, etc. to the supervisor
  • discard waste/trash into proper containers in accordance with established sanitation procedures and reline trash receptacles
  • assure that work/assignment areas are clean and free of hazardous conditions
  • assure that established infection control and standard precaution practices are maintained
  • use protective clothing/devices when handling infectious garments and linen or blood/body fluids
  • coordinate daily laundry services with nursing staff when performing routine assignments in resident living areas
  • follow established safety precautions when performing tasks and using equipment or supplies
  • assure that equipment is cleaned and prepared for the next shift
  • report all equipment malfunctions and breakdowns to supervisor
  • keep supervisor informed of supply needs and equipment needing replacement
  • follow established work/cleaning schedules
  • report hazardous conditions or equipment to supervisor
  • report accidents/incidents
  • maintain confidentiality of resident information and honor personal/property rights
  • attend housekeeping/laundry department meetings as directed
  • attend and participate in in-service educational classes and training programs
  • turn in days off and payroll forms, supply sheets, and annual medical examinations timely
  • follow established fire, disaster, and evacuation policies
  • perform other related duties as assigned by Director of Housekeeping and Administrator
