Job Description
This opportunity is presented by a respected hospital located in Southeast Texas, a region known for its beautiful coastal environment and vibrant culture. The hospital boasts over 200 beds and is recognized for its clinical excellence and commitment to patient-centered care. It offers a mission-driven workplace culture that prioritizes measurable, positive patient outcomes. This hospital is celebrated for maintaining low infection rates and achieving high patient satisfaction scores, reflecting the quality and reliability of its care. The facility's commitment to award-winning workplace practices further underlines its dedication to staff wellbeing and professional development. The institution supports a high-acuity environment that accelerates growth opportunities in labor and delivery (L&D), maternity, and obstetrics and gynecology (OBGYN) leadership.
The role of Labor and Delivery Nurse Director is designed for a visionary leader who thrives in a dynamic healthcare setting and is motivated by excellence and innovation. This leader will operate within the Women’s Services continuum, which delivers a best-in-class experience across maternity, perinatal, and OB/GYN care. This includes comprehensive care services that span from triage, antepartum, labor/delivery/recovery (LDR/LDRP), cesarean operating rooms, postpartum/couplet care, to collaboration with neonatal services. The environment is supported by advanced technology, optimized workflows, and evidence-based protocols to ensure the highest quality care. The scale and resources of a 200+ bed hospital coupled with the personal touch and attractive coastal lifestyle of Southeast Texas contribute to attracting and retaining talented nurses and physicians.
In this leadership position, the Labor and Delivery Nurse Director will report directly to a forward-thinking Chief Nursing Officer (CNO)/Vice President of Patient Care Services. The director will helm L&D operations with strong support from assistant nurse managers, nurse educators, lactation consultants, perinatal quality leaders, and charge registered nurses. Key responsibilities encompass strategic planning, staffing and scheduling, budget management, and implementation of quality and safety initiatives. The director plays a pivotal role in healthcare-associated infection (HAI) reduction, compliance with perinatal care bundles, adoption of maternal early-warning systems, and continuous improvement processes. Collaborative partnerships with anesthesia, neonatology, OB hospitalists, and case management teams are essential to fostering a cohesive and high-performing L&D team. The working environment is welcoming, inclusive, and values diversity among healthcare professionals, creating a workplace where nurses and providers love to practice and make a difference.
Southeast Texas itself offers an inviting backdrop for the Labor and Delivery Nurse Director seeking professional fulfillment alongside a balanced, rewarding lifestyle. The region features the sandy beaches of the Gulf Coast, bays and bayous ideal for fishing and kayaking, and the scenic trails of the Big Thicket perfect for hiking and birdwatching. Cultural richness is evident in lively concerts, festivals, and a diverse culinary scene boasting Tex-Mex, Gulf seafood, barbecue, and Cajun flavors. Families and professionals benefit from strong educational institutions, including regional universities, quality healthcare access, short commutes, and improving community amenities such as walkability and bikeability. The area's growing economy and strong community support add an extra layer of appeal for long-term personal and professional opportunities.
This Labor and Delivery Nurse Director position offers competitive compensation with a market-aligned base salary, leadership incentives, and relocation assistance to support transition. Additional benefits include comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, retirement plans featuring employer matching contributions, generous paid time off, parental leave, and mental health and wellness resources. The hospital emphasizes transparent career advancement pathways, enabling motivated leaders to shape positive outcomes for mothers, babies, and families.
