Job Description

The Iowa Cubs is a professional baseball team and the Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, based in Des Moines, Iowa. Operating as part of the Minor League Baseball structure, the Iowa Cubs play a vital role in both player development and community engagement through sports and entertainment. The organization is known for delivering memorable and thrilling live baseball experiences to fans throughout the Midwest. They prioritize a vibrant fan experience paired with exceptional customer service at their home venue, Principal Park, where they host a wide range of games and events from spring through early fall. Employees working for the Iowa Cubs become part of a dynamic team dedicated to supporting the sport, delivering excellent service, and maintaining an inviting environment for all attendees.

This position is for a Kitchen Worker who will serve as the runner for the concession stand operations during Iowa Cubs' baseball games and related events. This role is crucial to ensuring that food and beverage orders are fulfilled promptly and accurately in a high-energy environment. The Kitchen Worker will be expected to maintain excellent attendance and be adaptable to the event-driven schedule, which is primarily based on the Iowa Cubs’ game calendar running from March through September. The hourly wage for this position is $14.00, and it is tip eligible as per the collective bargaining agreement (CBA). Benefits for this role are provided according to the union agreement. The position will remain open until June 5th, 2026, allowing candidates ample time to apply and undergo the required hiring process.

Responsibilities in this role include basic preparation and delivery of food and beverage items, maintaining cleanliness and sanitation around the concession area, and inventory memorization to assist customers efficiently. The Kitchen Worker must adhere to strict company and state sanitation standards to ensure the safety and quality of the products served. Candidates should expect to contribute to the breakdown and cleaning process following each event, demonstrating teamwork and responsibility in maintaining the concession area. Strong interpersonal skills are essential because the position involves interacting with guests, coworkers, management, and volunteers, all within a fast-paced and sometimes high-volume setting. Flexibility to work various shifts—including days, nights, weekends, and holidays—is necessary due to the nature of event scheduling at Principal Park.

Overall, this role offers a valuable opportunity for individuals interested in gaining experience in food service, event-based work environments, and customer service within a popular sports venue. Individuals who excel in dynamic, team-oriented environments and possess a friendly and respectful demeanor will find this position rewarding and engaging. The Iowa Cubs organization offers a collaborative atmosphere and solid support network, ensuring the success and satisfaction of both staff and patrons.
