Job Requirements

  • Ability to work full-time Monday through Friday with specified hours
  • at least one year of banquet cooking and menu planning experience
  • experience in food service management and supervision
  • current City of Tucson Food Handlers Permit or Serve Safe Certificate or willingness to obtain immediately
  • CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain within 90 days
  • valid Arizona State Driver's License
  • ability to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally
  • ability to work holidays
  • good verbal and written communication skills
  • proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • successful background clearance
  • ability to operate kitchen equipment
  • positive attitude and flexibility

Job Qualifications

  • Graduate of a certified cooking school or equivalent experience
  • food service management experience
  • banquet cooking and menu planning experience
  • team player with good interpersonal skills
  • proficient in Microsoft Office
  • self-starter with initiative
  • ability to manage multiple projects
  • positive and flexible attitude
  • commitment to The Salvation Army mission
  • possession of current Food Handlers Permit or Serve Safe Certificate
  • successful background clearance
  • ability to operate kitchen equipment
  • CPR/First Aid certification

Job Duties

  • Prepare, cook, and serve meals to shelter clients and direct program cooks
  • prepare high-quality meals for special events and meetings
  • supervise, train, and orient all kitchen staff
  • maintain office communication and correspondence
  • manage budget compliance without compromising food quality
  • ensure adherence to public health requirements and agency guidelines
  • schedule and ensure appropriate kitchen staffing
  • plan menus incorporating donated food items
  • oversee food preparation and storage using FIFO methods
  • supervise receipt of deliveries and organization of food service areas
  • secure food and equipment to prevent theft
  • maintain and clean food service equipment daily
  • order food supplies from vendors
  • supervise kitchen volunteers
  • maintain all documentation and reports accurately
  • assist with holiday community meal coordination
  • perform other related duties as assigned
