The Kitchen Steward role at Mainsail Lodging & Development is a pivotal position within the hotel’s food and beverage operations. This role is designed for enthusiastic, energetic individuals who thrive in a fast-paced kitchen environment and are dedicated to maintaining impeccable cleanliness and efficiency. The Kitchen Steward will play a crucial part in supporting the kitchen staff by managing the cleanliness and availability of all kitchenware including pots, pans, dinnerware, flatware, and glassware.
As a Kitchen Steward, you will be responsible for upholding the high standards set by the Mainsail franchise, ensuring that all kitchen operations function smoothly. This includes responsibilities such as washing dishes by hand and machine, general cleaning of kitchen equipment and storage areas, basic food preparation tasks, restocking clean supplies, and maintaining a tidy and organized kitchen space. The position requires adherence to health and safety regulations, including proper hand washing, knife safety, and sanitary compliance following SafeStaff standards.
In addition to the operational duties, the Kitchen Steward plays a vital role in supporting banquet events by assisting with plate preparation and ensuring supplies are stocked and organized. Communication with team members is essential to maintain an efficient workflow and to foster a sense of ownership and professionalism within the kitchen and hotel environment.
This role demands physical stamina, including the ability to stand or sit for extended periods, work long hours when necessary, and a capability to handle physically demanding tasks safely and effectively. Mental agility is equally important, as the Kitchen Steward must make quick decisions, manage multiple tasks, work collaboratively with diverse personalities, and maintain confidentiality under pressure.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or higher
- previous restaurant kitchen experience preferred
- excellent customer service skills
- excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- ServeSafe certified preferred

Job Qualifications

- knowledge of safe food handling and sanitation practices
- ability to use kitchen equipment and machinery safely

Job Duties
- Washing dishes to include machine and hand washing
- general cleaning to include equipment, floors, walls, coolers, and freezers
- basic food prep - peeling vegetables, portioning product, etc.
- wash dishes, glassware, flatware, pots, and pans using dishwasher or by hand
- restock clean dishes, flatware, and all cooking equipment in the appropriate storage areas
- maintain the kitchen work area in an orderly and clean condition
- follow proper hand washing procedures
- assist with plate up dinners during banquets
- stock supplies for the kitchen in specified locations and maintain area in order
- sort and remove trash and clean the garbage cans / whales daily
- maintain trash area and place in proper area for pickup
- assist with loading and unloading of food deliveries and supplies
- maintain a professional presentable uniform and personal grooming
- able to effectively communicate with the team on a daily basis
- maintain a sense of ownership for the hotel / restaurant
- follow SafeStaff sanitary compliance throughout every area
- follow all safety procedures to include knife safety
- ability to use knives, kitchen machinery safely and effectively
- ensure successful performance assisting guests with an exceptional experience to ensure high performing scores on the GSS according to Marriott
