The Kitchen Manager role at Jalapen0o Tree is a pivotal position responsible for overseeing the back-of-house (BOH) operations, ensuring that every dish meets the high standards set by the brand. This is a full-time role that demands a hands-on leader passionate about food quality, cleanliness, team development, and guest satisfaction. The Kitchen Manager's primary focus is on maintaining excellence in food preparation, safety, sanitation, inventory management, and cost control, all while upholding compliance with health and food service regulations. A key part of the position involves managing BOH scheduling, ordering food and supplies, controlling inventory, and managing the cost of goods to align with the restaurant's profitability goals.

Success in this role requires strong leadership and coaching skills as the Kitchen Manager will train and mentor kitchen staff to become a high-performing team. They lead shifts using the restaurant's systems and tools, ensuring smooth operations throughout the day. The role also includes overseeing BOH hiring, terminations, payroll changes, and assisting with employee discipline and development. By implementing new menus, recipes, and promotions, the Kitchen Manager plays an active role in keeping the kitchen dynamic and fresh. Before transitioning to their assigned location, new Kitchen Managers undergo comprehensive training at the Jalape0o Tree headquarters in Tyler, TX, ensuring they are well-equipped to uphold the brand's standards.

The ideal candidate is a dependable, high-energy leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and values teamwork and organization. This role is suited for those who have a passion for culinary arts, operational excellence, and developing people. The position also requires availability for 50 to 55 hours per week, including holidays and weekends, emphasizing the commitment necessary to successfully manage kitchen operations.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a kitchen manager or assistant manager in a full-service restaurant
  • high school diploma or GED preferred
  • must be at least 18 years old
  • valid driver's license
  • knowledge of food and beverage laws and health regulations
  • able to stand for prolonged periods, move quickly, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs
  • frequent exposure to hot and cold environments
  • frequent handwashing and repetitive motions
  • ability to read, write, and operate computer and phone systems
  • availability for 50-55 hours per week including holidays and weekends

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a kitchen manager or successful assistant manager in a full-service restaurant
  • high school diploma or GED preferred
  • strong leadership and coaching skills
  • proficiency in POS and restaurant systems such as Aloha, Microsoft Office, and Compeat
  • ability to manage inventory, food safety, and labor schedules
