Job Description

Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc. (NYSE: CMG) is a leading fast-casual restaurant chain renowned for cultivating a better world through responsible sourcing and serving real, wholesome food without artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives. Established as a pioneer in the fast-food industry, Chipotle has set itself apart by changing the typical expectations tied to fast food. With locations across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany, Chipotle uniquely owns and operates all its restaurants across North America and Europe, ensuring consistent quality and innovation at every location. The company strongly emphasizes sustainability, digital technology, and a strong commitment to social responsibility. Chipotle actively supports sustainable farming, ethical ingredient sourcing, and initiatives aiming to transform the future of food production. At its core, Chipotle’s mission is to make better food accessible to everyone, fostering a culture where integrity, community, and innovation are deeply embedded in everyday operations.

The Kitchen Leader position at Chipotle is an essential role within the restaurant’s operations team. This role focuses on maintaining the highest standards of food quality, safety, and customer experience by leading kitchen activities and fostering a collaborative team environment. As a Kitchen Leader, you will be directly involved in food preparation including grilling meats, sautéing vegetables, and ensuring all food is cooked and prepped to order according to Chipotle’s stringent standards. In addition to hands-on cooking duties, you will oversee inventory management, monitor food waste, and troubleshoot any quality issues that arise. Beyond these technical responsibilities, the Kitchen Leader acts as a role model and mentor, training and developing new crew members to become future Kitchen Leaders, ensuring the growth and success of the team.

Safety and cleanliness are critical components of this role. The Kitchen Leader ensures that the kitchen remains clean, organized, and properly stocked while verifying that all kitchen equipment is well-maintained and repaired swiftly when needed. You will also fill out important documentation such as Material Safety Data Sheets and ensure adherence to inventory rotation protocols (FIFO). By maintaining compliance with these guidelines, you help prevent workplace injuries and incidents, safeguarding the wellbeing of all team members.

This role offers a dynamic working environment where multitasking and teamwork are vital. Kitchen Leaders are constantly engaged in supporting their teammates, stepping in wherever assistance is needed, and pushing to exceed daily station goals. Strong communication skills are essential as you bridge interactions between back-of-house kitchen staff and front-of-house crew to foster a seamless customer service experience.

Chipotle values individuals who embody its Food With Integrity philosophy and can communicate well within the team and with customers. The company rewards dedication with competitive hourly wages ranging from $18.40 to $20.46 plus digital tips and a comprehensive benefits package. Benefits include tuition assistance, free meals during shifts, medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, holiday closures, and solid opportunities for advancement. Approximately 80% of management positions began as crew members, reflecting Chipotle’s commitment to internal growth and career development.

Joining Chipotle as a Kitchen Leader means becoming part of a people-first company that embraces diversity, equity, and inclusion while continuously pushing the boundaries of what fast food can be. This role is a fantastic opportunity to build culinary skills, leadership expertise, and a rewarding career in an innovative and socially responsible environment.
