Job Description

Heinen's, founded in 1929, is a renowned grocery store chain recognized for its commitment to quality products and exceptional customer service. With a rich history spanning almost a century, Heinen's is a fourth-generation family-owned company that operates 23 stores across Cleveland, Ohio, and Chicago, Illinois. The chain includes 19 stores in Cleveland and 4 stores in Chicago, supported by two distribution warehouses, a food production plant, and a corporate headquarters located in Warrensville Heights, Ohio. As a company, Heinen's prides itself on fostering an associate-first culture, prioritizing the quality of life for every team member. This philosophy is reflected in its competitive compensation packages, opportunities for professional development and leadership growth, paid time off, and balanced work schedules.

The role of a Retail Professional at Heinen's is vital to maintaining the brand's high standards and delivering a superior shopping experience to customers. This position is embedded within Heinen's Diamond Difference Standards, a set of core behaviors that distinguish the company as the premier supermarket in Northeast Ohio and Chicago. These standards emphasize essential elements such as professional appearance, acknowledgment of customers, continuous evaluation of store conditions, expressing appreciation among team members, and engaging with customers when appropriate.

As a Retail Professional, you will be responsible for prioritizing your daily work to meet the changing demands of the business, preparing various food items such as sandwiches, wraps, and trays according to customer orders and approved procedures. You will also engage in washing, peeling, and cutting fruits, vegetables, and meats to prepare them for cooking or serving while adhering to Heinen’s strict planning, packaging, and merchandising standards. This position involves acquiring comprehensive knowledge of the kitchen department and maintaining food handling and temperature standards to ensure safety and quality. You will be accountable for writing orders effectively using pars and planning techniques, working collaboratively with your team to complete daily tasks such as scanning and recording shrinkage, stocking, rotating inventory, and merchandising. Additionally, attendance at corporate meetings, vendor calls, and training sessions is required to stay informed and compliant with company goals and food safety standards. The role demands flexibility to perform other duties as assigned and dedication to supporting the overall success of the company.

Working as a Retail Professional at Heinen's offers an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking to build a career within a supportive and growth-oriented environment. The role includes a full-time, 40-hour per week schedule with shifts varying between early morning and evening hours, including weekends. This position provides clear opportunities for promotion within the company, reflecting Heinen’s commitment to developing its associates. The workplace culture is centered around teamwork, respect, and encouragement, ensuring each associate is valued and empowered to contribute their best work. If you are passionate about food service, customer engagement, and working in a dynamic retail environment, this role at Heinen's promises not only a stable career but also the chance to grow professionally and personally within a well-established and respected grocery store company.
