The Food Preparation Specialist role is a full-time position offering benefits and an hourly pay range of $20 to $23, depending on experience. The schedule is Monday through Friday, from 10am to 6pm. This position is responsible for a wide range of food-related duties including fresh food preparation, managing supplies and equipment, food packaging, storage, and detailed reporting to adhere to funding guidelines. The specialist assists with menu planning to maintain healthy and nutritious meals across all service areas and media, from regular meals to meetings and snack preparations for residents. They are also responsible for the safe handling of food, ensuring proper temperatures, labeling, and storage, and managing dinner service operations.
This position involves direct interaction with volunteers and staff, providing guidance and support in kitchen and cleaning operations, and requires the ability to prioritize tasks efficiently throughout the workday. Attention to cleanliness and food safety is paramount, with responsibilities including receiving deliveries and stocking food items. The organization expects the candidate to be comfortable using computer applications such as Microsoft 365, SharePoint, and Teams for communication and reporting, along with handling sensitive client information confidentially.
In addition to the technical skills and food service competencies, the role demands physical stamina and mobility, as well as the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and navigate multiple stairways. A driver’s license, current auto insurance, and a criminal background check are mandatory prerequisites for employment. Job Requirements
- Minimum of one year experience in a kitchen setting
- high school education or equivalent
- ServSafe Food Certification preferred
- ability to move quickly between tasks according to their priority
- ability to handle client information with complete confidentiality
- be able to reach, bend, stoop, and lift up to 50 pounds
- ability to prioritize, handle a variety of tasks and be self-directed, while being responsive to changes as they come up

Job Duties
- Implements healthy and nutritious menus
- assures presentation of all menu items adheres to established food handling standards
- sets up food service counter and steam table with hot and cold food including meats, vegetables, salads, desserts, and beverages
- serves food cafeteria style
- prepares food in advance with instructions for advocates on preparation for when staff are not scheduled
- ensures safe food handling practices are used at all times such as proper temperatures, organizing, dating and labeling stored food items
- responsible for cleaning the kitchen and dining room areas
- receives and stocks food and assists with deliveries
- assists volunteers as needed in the kitchen such as cooking or cleaning
- completes other duties as assigned
