Job Description

The hiring establishment is an Early Learning Center dedicated to providing quality care and education for young children. The center emphasizes a nurturing and safe environment where children can thrive and develop essential life skills. As a community-focused educational facility, the Early Learning Center prioritizes not only the academic and social growth of its students but also ensures they receive nutritious meals that support their health and well-being throughout the day. The center follows strict health and safety regulations and maintains licenses to operate according to the highest standards set by local and state authorities. It values teamwork, positive attitudes, and clear communication among its staff to create a supportive and efficient workplace.

The role available is that of a Kitchen Assistant Cook, a position crucial to the daily operations of the center's meal services. The Assistant Cook will play a vital part in preparing meals and snacks for the children enrolled at the Early Learning Center. This role requires a hands-on approach to food preparation in compliance with the Child and Adult Food Program guidelines, ensuring all meals are nutritious, appealing, and safely prepared. The assistant will work closely with the kitchen cook and other staff to maintain a clean, organized kitchen space that meets health department standards. Beyond food preparation, the assistant is responsible for adhering to all licensing standards related to health and safety within the kitchen environment.

This position is suited for individuals who enjoy working in a busy kitchen setting and have a practical understanding of kitchen equipment and cleaning protocols. While a high school diploma or equivalent is mandatory, additional experience in a licensed commercial kitchen or culinary training is favored. Proficiency in an Asian language is considered an advantage, indicating the center's diverse community and inclusive approach. Employees in this role should be physically able to handle standing for long periods, lifting heavy items up to 40 pounds, and managing the physical demands of a kitchen environment, including exposure to heat and sharp instruments.

The Kitchen Assistant Cook is also expected to maintain excellent communication with the kitchen cook and other center staff, follow directions closely, and ask for clarification when necessary to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and correctly. Strong organizational skills are valued to help handle multiple assignments simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and speed. The working schedule is Monday through Friday with assigned hours, creating a structured and consistent workweek. Overall, this position offers a meaningful opportunity to contribute to the well-being and development of children by supporting their nutritional needs in a safe, clean, and well-managed kitchen setting.
