Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- NYC DOHMH Food Handler’s Certificate required or obtainable upon hire
- prior experience in a kitchen or food service environment preferred
- must be physically able to lift 25-40 lbs
- must be able to perform physical tasks such as stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, crawling, climbing, balancing, sitting and reaching
- basic English reading, writing and speaking skills required
- strong commitment to professionalism and friendly interaction with clients and colleagues
- availability to work part-time, 17 hours per week with a flexible schedule
Job Qualifications
- NYC DOHMH Food Handler's Certificate required or obtainable upon hire
- some kitchen and/or cooking experience in a commercial kitchen
- must be able to manually move, pull, carry, push or lift heavy objects or materials (25-40 lbs)
- must be able to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, crawl, climb or balance, sit and reach
- knowledge of safety, hygiene and sanitary precautions common to the food service industry
- ability to read, write and speak some English
- friendly and professional demeanor with clients and staff
- prior experience working with older adults a plus
Job Duties
- Performs general kitchen duties in the preparation, serving, and clean-up of the Center's breakfast and dining room space
- operates and cleans a variety of specialized food service equipment such as coffee maker, automatic dishwasher, commercial ovens, steam table, and mixer
- ensures safe and proper temperatures and storage for all food items
- assists with preparing, serving, portioning and packing meals, including cutting and washing produce, seasoning meats, bagging bread and fruits, and packing meals in containers
- assists with any other kitchen aide duties as needed
