Job Description

Michaels is a leading arts and crafts retailer in North America, operating over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada. Known as the ultimate destination for creativity and celebration, Michaels offers a wide range of art supplies, custom framing, home décor, and seasonal products. Established in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, the company takes pride in fueling the joy of creativity through its diverse product offerings and unique in-store experiences. Michaels also owns Artistree, a manufacturer specializing in custom and specialty framing merchandise, further enhancing its leadership in the arts and crafts industry.

The role being offered at the Michaels store in Bay-Union City, CA, is that of an Event Coordinator and Store Associate. This full or part-time position offers an hourly pay range of $16.90 to $19.70, reflecting the company’s dedication to competitive and fair compensation. The candidate will play a pivotal role in delivering a memorable and engaging customer experience by planning, coordinating, and facilitating a variety of events within the store. These events include children’s birthday parties and craft classes designed to foster a fun, creative, and stress-free environment for guests of all ages.

This role is multi-faceted, blending event management and customer service responsibilities. The Event Coordinator is expected to manage several events concurrently while maintaining high standards for client satisfaction, store cleanliness, and safety. Responsibilities include organizing craft projects, performing face painting, assembling party add-ons like goody bags and balloons, and communicating effectively with clients and team members to ensure smooth event execution. Administrative tasks such as answering emails, making phone calls, and completing paperwork are integral to the position, supporting the overall operational flow.

In addition to event coordination, the role involves helping customers shop by locating products, providing solutions, and delivering a fast and friendly checkout experience. The coordinator will also engage customers with company programs like Rewards and Private Label Credit Cards, assist with Omni channel processes including Buy Online Pickup In Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS), and participate in truck unloading and merchandise stocking. These duties are critical to maintaining inventory standards and providing excellent customer service.

Candidates must be energetic, enthusiastic, and possess excellent people skills. Experience working with children and in children’s events is highly preferred, along with strong communication and problem-solving skills. The job requires the ability to manage job stress, exhibit organizational skills, and demonstrate a positive, respectful attitude at all times. Physical requirements include standing for long periods, moving throughout the store, and performing manual tasks such as lifting heavy boxes and accessing high shelves.

Michaels emphasizes workplace inclusion and is committed to accommodating individuals with disabilities. The company offers a comprehensive benefits package for both full-time and part-time employees, including health insurance (medical, dental, and vision), paid time off, tuition assistance, and generous employee discounts. The store environment is a blend of climate-controlled public spaces and some areas such as stock rooms and outdoor spaces for specific tasks.

Overall, this role at Michaels offers a dynamic opportunity to combine creativity, customer service, and event coordination in a vibrant retail setting where the joy of creativity is central to the company’s mission.
