Alliance Hospitality Group is currently seeking an Hourly Sommelier to join their dedicated team. This hourly role offers competitive pay ranging from $20 to $25 per hour plus commission on wine sales and/or tips.

The Hourly Sommelier will be responsible for managing the wine and sake program during service hours, using extensive wine knowledge to guide and educate guests on selections, pairings, and the overall wine service experience. This role is vital in enhancing the dining experience for guests while supporting the operational success of the establishment. Beyond floor service, the Sommelier will maintain the cleanliness and organization of the wine cellar and storage areas, ensuring inventory accuracy and readiness. Additionally, the Sommelier plays a crucial role in training and mentoring staff, helping build a knowledgeable and confident service team. Coordination with service captains for flawless wine service during private events is a key responsibility. Execution of proper wine service standards, maintaining wine service equipment, and providing exceptional customer service are core elements of this position. The job requires physical stamina to be on one’s feet for the majority of shifts and involves frequent lifting up to 50 pounds. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years of experience in fine dining service, plus strong knowledge of wine regions, varietals, and service etiquette. Certification through programs such as the Court of Master Sommeliers or WSET is highly preferred. Shift flexibility including evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events is necessary.   • Strong customer service skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Knowledge of sake
  • Certification through a recognized wine program preferred

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years in a service-oriented position within a fine dining restaurant
  • Extensive knowledge of wine regions, varietals, production methods and wine service etiquette
  • Excellent sensory skills for wine tasting including the ability to identify flavors, aromas and characteristics of different wines
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to provide personalized recommendations to guests
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with a particular attention to detail
  • Ability to work irregular hours, shifts, evenings, weekends, special events and holidays as needed
  • Knowledge of sake
  • Certification through a recognized wine program such as the Court of Master Sommeliers or WSET strongly preferred

Job Duties

  • Ensure a thorough knowledge of the wine list both by the glass and by the bottle
  • Assist guests and colleagues with wine selections while in service
  • Ensure correct and professional wine service standards are maintained throughout service
  • Support the service team to ensure guest needs are met in a timely manner
  • Maintain proper inventory stocking of wines and sake in various storage areas around the facility
  • Ensure 86'd items are recorded to achieve accuracy within printed menus
  • Provide exceptional customer service throughout the restaurant
