Job Description
Kaizen is a dynamic, chef-driven restaurant that specializes in meticulously crafted sushi and omakase dishes. Embracing the Japanese concept of Kaizen, meaning continuous change and improvement, the restaurant is committed to using the finest ingredients and maintaining a detailed dedication to the sushi craft. Located in Phoenix, Kaizen offers a unique culinary experience that combines traditional Japanese techniques with a modern approach to unite people through food across cultures. The establishment boasts a warm, exciting atmosphere and a team-oriented environment where creativity, quality, and service excellence are at the heart of every dish.
Kaizen is currently seeking a dedicated Sushi Chef to join their new and growing team. This role is pivotal in maintaining the restaurant's high standards for food preparation and presentation. As a Sushi Chef at Kaizen, you will be responsible for executing food tickets accurately and within the desired ticket time, ensuring that every dish meets the meticulous standards set by the chef-driven kitchen. The role involves mastering the preparation of all menu items, adhering to safe food handling and sanitation practices, and applying proper product rotation techniques to maintain freshness and quality.
In this position, the Sushi Chef will participate actively in setting up and breaking down the kitchen and dish areas, stocking stations properly, completing daily side work and cleaning duties, and keeping the cooking areas organized throughout service. The ideal candidate will have 1-2 years of sushi cook experience in a restaurant kitchen, possess basic knife skills, prep production, and recipe execution abilities. Additionally, you must be able to work efficiently in close quarters with other kitchen staff, follow directives on the spot during busy times, and have an outgoing personality that facilitates communication with colleagues and guests.
Kaizen values candidates who are 17 years or older, hold a valid food handling card or certification from an approved organization, and are physically able to lift and move up to 50 pounds while sustaining long hours on their feet. Reliable transportation to and from scheduled shifts is also essential. Compensation is dependent on experience, reflecting the professional nature and skill required for this position.
Joining Kaizen means becoming part of a team dedicated not only to exceptional sushi but also to continuous improvement and learning. The restaurant’s environment is fun and exciting, offering opportunities to grow your skills in the kitchen while contributing to a memorable dining experience for guests. If you are passionate about sushi, have a keen eye for consistency and quality, and enjoy working in a collaborative, high-energy setting, Kaizen may be the perfect fit for you.
