The Janitorial Specialist position at Samueli Academy is a vital role that contributes significantly to the overall school environment by ensuring that all campus facilities remain clean, safe, and inviting. This full-time, hourly position operates on a shift from 3:30 pm to 12:00 am and reports directly to the Facilities Manager. The role primarily involves executing nightly cleaning routines across classrooms, offices, dormitories, common areas, restrooms, and the outdoor school environment. The role requires maintaining sanitation standards, managing waste disposal, and ensuring supply areas remain restocked. Additionally, the Janitorial Specialist supports facility maintenance by monitoring building conditions and assisting with event setups. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior experience in custodial or janitorial work
  • Ability to read and write English

Job Duties

  • Follow and perform daily checklist that include cleaning and sanitizing classrooms, restrooms, offices, and common areas
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and disinfect surfaces regularly
  • Empty and dispose of trash and recycling in accordance with safety standards
  • Restock restrooms and supply areas daily
  • Monitor building conditions and report repair or maintenance needs
  • Assist with setup and breakdown for school events, meetings, or special activities
  • Maintain outdoor walkways, entryways, and campus areas for cleanliness and safety
  • Supervise and guide students assisting with community service and campus clean-up
  • Provide direction, training, and encouragement to student helpers
  • Model professionalism, responsibility, and respect aligned with Samueli Academy values
  • Follow all health, safety, and sanitation guidelines
  • Use cleaning products and equipment properly with safe storage and handling
  • Adhere to organizational policies and licensing requirements
  • Use basic computer and email skills to communicate with supervisors
  • Read and write English to complete reports and safety documentation
  • Collaborate with facilities staff and administrators to prioritize cleaning needs
  • Communicate supply needs to lead to ensure inventory

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor
