  • Must meet general health requirements including medical and physical exams
  • Must be able to work with disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and challenging individuals
  • Must be able to lift/move 25 pounds to 5 feet height and carry/push/pull 25 pounds for 50 feet
  • Must comply with dress code requirements
  • Must observe universal precautions
  • Must maintain confidentiality of patient information

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior janitorial or cleaning experience preferred
  • Ability to speak and write English clearly
  • Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and safety procedures
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Physical ability to perform manual tasks including lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Certification in DOT Hazardous Waste or willingness to obtain within 60 days
  • Basic knowledge of infection control standards
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing training and education
  • Ability to follow instructions and maintain safety compliance
  • Demonstrated patience, tact, and professionalism

Job Duties

  • Ensures that work and cleaning schedules are followed as closely as practical
  • Reports all accidents and incidents to supervisor on the shift they occur
  • Coordinates daily janitorial services with Director of Environmental Services during routine cleaning
  • Attends departmental and staff meetings as directed
  • Performs specific tasks in accordance with daily work assignments
  • Participates in department studies and projects as directed
  • Attends in-service educational classes and training programs
  • Follows established safety precautions, SDS, and uses safety equipment appropriately
  • Ensures work areas are free of hazardous objects
  • Follows proper techniques when using chemicals and disinfectants
  • Reports hazardous conditions or equipment to supervisor
  • Maintains infection control and universal precaution practices
  • Disposes refuse according to sanitation procedures
  • Coordinates isolation procedures with nursing service
  • Maintains adequate housekeeping supplies
  • Reports and cleans burned out or malfunctioning lights
  • Cleans and stores equipment properly
  • Performs floor and janitorial functions including mopping, waxing, buffing, vacuuming
  • Cleans walls, ceilings, and all surfaces using proper solutions
  • Discards waste into proper containers and relines trash receptacles
  • Cleans vacant rooms and maintains cleanliness of work areas
  • Performs isolation cleaning and disposes of infectious waste properly
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient care information
  • Knocks before entering rooms and respects patient property
  • Reports missing or improperly labeled hazardous containers
  • Uses personal protective equipment when handling infectious materials
  • Follows established hand washing procedures
  • Reports unauthorized disclosure of confidential information
  • Turns in all found articles to housekeeping staff
