The role of Intermittent Recreation Aide - Events Crew within Shawnee County Parks and Recreation is a unique seasonal position playing a crucial support function at these facilities. This intermittent, non-benefits eligible job entails working on a part-time, as-needed basis with a maximum of up to 988 working hours annually. The position involves providing exemplary customer service to visitors and guests of the county park venues, ensuring that each guest's experience is welcoming, enjoyable, and well-coordinated. The Recreation Aide participates actively in the setup and teardown of events including birthday parties, weddings, conferences, and other special occasions while supporting the daily operational needs of the parks and recreational facilities.

Detailed responsibilities include assisting with on-site program supervision, ensuring programs are implemented smoothly and guests adhere to event agendas. This team member plays an active role in maintaining a clean, safe, and organized environment by performing routine cleaning tasks, organizing supplies, and assisting with minor administrative duties necessary for efficient program delivery. The successful candidate is expected to have a positive attitude, effective communication skills, and the ability to interact well with the public and coworkers. They must be capable of following instructions independently and can work varying schedules that may include evenings and weekends.

This role demands physical stamina as lifting up to 50 pounds is required, as well as readiness to perform a variety of janitorial, custodial, and event support functions. It also involves the use of standard cleaning equipment, county vehicles, and basic office technology including tablets and computer software such as Microsoft Office. The position not only supports event execution but also contributes significantly to the overall reputation and smooth functioning of Shawnee County's recreational assets. With a commitment to safety, customer satisfaction, and excellence, this role provides invaluable assistance to both the department staff and the community it serves.

Job Requirements

  • Must be at least sixteen years of age
  • must be at least eighteen years of age to drive County vehicle
  • valid driver’s license and ability to operate County-owned vehicle if eighteen or older
  • good driving record with no recent misdemeanors or felony traffic offenses
  • ability to lift fifty pounds
  • availability to work a wide range of schedules including evenings and weekends
  • must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and driving record review

Job Duties

  • Coordinate event hosting with supervisory staff and community center assistant
  • act as a host for birthday parties, weddings and after-hours events
