Job Description
The University of Southern Maine (USM) is a dynamic and vibrant academic institution located in the greater Portland, Maine area, featuring campuses in Portland, Gorham, Lewiston, and online. As part of the University of Maine System, USM offers a comprehensive array of undergraduate and graduate programs that emphasize hands-on learning, community engagement, and interdisciplinary collaboration. USM is deeply committed to fostering a student-centered learning environment that supports economic, cultural, and civic development in the communities it serves. It strives to provide expanded access to high-quality education that elevates economic opportunity and contributes significantly to the vitality of a diverse and inclusive society. The university upholds core values of respect, integrity, equity, and responsiveness while delivering on its Service Promise of being Student Focused Every Day.
The Internship Project Coordinator role is an exciting full-time, 3-year fixed length position based on USM's Portland campus, with the possibility of renewal. The position offers a starting annual salary of $45,000 and includes a highly competitive benefits package. This role is situated within the Career & Employment Hub, a department dedicated to supporting students and alumni as they explore career pathways, gain professional experience, and transition successfully into the workforce. The Internship Project Coordinator will play a pivotal role in advancing the Career Exploration Internship Program (CEIP), a program that provides valuable funded internship opportunities for both undergraduate and graduate students, as well as employer partners in southern Maine.
In this multifaceted role, the Coordinator will not simply support a program but will become a storyteller by promoting the success stories of students and employers through engaging media and communication channels like Instagram, LinkedIn, and other digital platforms. This critical work involves creating print and digital marketing materials, producing video content, managing social media strategies, and maintaining program webpages in collaboration with the Office of Marketing and Strategic Communications and MEIF@USM, an economic development initiative supporting innovation and solutions that address local challenges.
The Coordinator will also organize and facilitate key program events such as internship orientations, networking gatherings, and final presentations each semester to ensure meaningful engagement between students and employer partners. Additionally, this position supports students with internship applications and interview preparation, providing them with essential guidance to succeed. The Coordinator will manage program data by tracking, evaluating, and reporting on outcomes to ensure continued program effectiveness and success.
This role offers an unparalleled opportunity to work at the intersection of media production, marketing, event coordination, and career services to impact student development and community economic growth. The Coordinator will be part of a collaborative team that works across campus and community partnerships to develop experiential learning opportunities that prepare students for lifelong career success. The University of Southern Maine values diversity and inclusion and invites applicants from all backgrounds who share a commitment to academic excellence and community enrichment. The ideal candidate should be ready to embrace USM's mission and values while delivering impactful program support and communication.
