Job Requirements
- wear protective equipment such as hard hat, hearing protection, or safety-toe boots
- work hours may include a nonstandard workweek, overtime, and various shift work
- complete annual training and pass safety rules examinations
- position governed by a collective bargaining agreement and membership is required
- must pass all required assessments
- must pass a background screening
- must pass a post-offer medical examination, including drug testing
- ability to work in a gated booth adjacent to entry lanes
- if requested, provide sensitive information to Customs Border Patrol or other agencies as required
- must maintain an 85% passing rate on training quizzes and tests
- ability to stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, balance, climb
- physical agility including lifting, pushing, pulling, walking
- walk long distances over uneven terrain
- meet color vision and hearing standards as described in FRA regulations
- demonstrate auditory and visual acuity, tracking and inspection
Job Qualifications
- minimum 18 years of age
- valid driver’s license
- one year experience working in a heavy industrial environment preferred
- one year experience operating heavy machinery preferred
- three years outdoor work experience preferred
- knowledge of Microsoft Office and computer systems
- ability to work in a high-paced, outdoor environment
- familiarity with hazmat response procedures
- strong team orientation and customer service skills
Job Duties
- ascend and descend rail cars
- inspect and secure trailers, containers and intermodal flatcars
- assist lift operators in proper positioning of equipment
- operate powered vehicles known as IBC carts
- operate utility tractors (hostlers) and lift machines
- connect, move and park chassis, trailers and containers on terminal property
- inspect equipment for condition and operational readiness
- utilize computer systems including Microsoft Office to input and obtain information
- respond to minor hazardous material spills
- clean, lubricate and maintain securement devices and intermodal equipment
- inspect and apply end-of-train device and perform airbrake tests
- comply with FRA and AAR securement regulations and railway line clearance requirements
