Your daily activities will include physical measurement of products, obtaining temperature data, collecting samples, and performing volume calculations, all while adhering strictly to industry standards and company policies.
You will undergo comprehensive safety and orientation training to gain access to customer facilities, ensuring that all work is conducted safely and efficiently. The job demands meticulous attention to detail for accurate completion of paperwork and correct distribution of field reports and samples. Effective communication with office personnel is paramount, as you will be expected to update the team on any changes or developments regarding field assignments.
This position requires flexibility and readiness to accept assignments 24/7, including working scheduled days off and possible shifts depending on location. Field work will often place you in challenging environments such as refineries, terminals, and marine vessels. The role involves physical demands such as climbing ladders and stairs up to 100 feet while carrying equipment and samples weighting up to 45 pounds, standing for extended periods, and working outdoors in all weather conditions. Additionally, you must be prepared for a safety-sensitive work environment that includes drug and alcohol testing and health fitness evaluations.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Related industry experience preferred
- Ability to read, write and communicate in English
- Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in all units of measure
- Basic computer skills in word processing and spreadsheets
- Unrestricted use of a licensed and insured vehicle in good, safe condition
- Valid current driving license
- Availability to work 24 x 7 including scheduled days off and overtime
- Willingness to work shifts if required
- Ability to work in refineries, terminals, and marine vessels
- Respond to communications from the office and be available at all times
- Attendance at monthly safety meetings
- TWIC Card may be required
- Compliance with safety and drug and alcohol policies
- Ability to pass physical and fitness tests including Pulmonary and Respirator Fit Tests
- Ability to work in confined spaces and adverse weather conditions
- Physical ability to climb ladders and carry up to 45 pounds
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma and/or related experience in the industry
- Ability to read, write and communicate in English
- Basic math skills including the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Familiarity with basic computer skills in word processing and spreadsheet programs
- Required to have unrestricted use of a licensed and insured vehicle in good, safe operating condition that can be used on the job for both personal and sample transportation in all ambient weather conditions
- Must possess a valid current driving license and meet the requirements of AmSpec Safe Driving Policy
- Must be ready to accept job assignments at any time, 24 x 7, including scheduled days off
- Overtime must be worked as required to meet the needs of the branch office
- Must be willing to work shifts if required by location
- Must be able to work in refineries, terminals, and on-board marine vessels as necessary
Job Duties
- Complete all necessary safety and orientation training required to allow access to customer facilities
- Shadow assigned senior inspector or training person on jobs and learn basic inspection and sampling requirements
- Read, become familiar with and follow at all times, all American Petroleum Institute (API) and IFIA procedures as well as customer and company policies and requirements
- As assigned by training person, perform basic inspection and sampling work in the field according to industry and customer requirements, to include physical measurement of product, obtaining temperatures of product, sampling of product and calculations of volume
- Carry out all assigned tasks in accordance with the latest industry standards and practices and in accordance with the specific instructions provided by supervisor
- Maintain required communications with office staff and keep them fully updated of any changes to the initial plan
- Responsible for the correct preparation and distribution of all field reports to vessels, terminals, and the office as assigned by training person
- Responsible for the proper identification and timely transportation of the samples obtained in the course of their activities
- Other similar tasks as assigned by supervisor
