Job Description

The Resort at Pelican Hill is a distinguished luxury resort located in Newport Beach, California. Renowned for its stunning ocean views, impeccable service, and exceptional amenities, the resort offers guests an unforgettable hospitality experience. As part of the prestigious Marriott International family, The Resort at Pelican Hill upholds the highest standards of quality and service, combining timeless elegance with modern luxury. Guests are treated to exquisite dining options, beautifully appointed accommodations, and a wide range of recreational activities, making it a premier destination on the Southern California coast.

Within this esteemed resort, the Food and Beverage department plays a critical role in delivering outstanding guest experiences. The available position is a full-time non-management role focused on serving food and beverages to guests. This role is typically hourly-paid at a rate of $16.90 per hour and is also tip-eligible, providing additional earning potential based on guest satisfaction and service quality.

The primary responsibility of this position involves serving food courses and alcoholic beverages to guests according to event type and service standards. The server will set tables appropriately, answer questions about menu selections, and communicate effectively with the kitchen team regarding menu inquiries, order preparations, wait times, and special dietary requirements or allergies. Maintaining cleanliness of work areas and utensils throughout the shift is essential, as is using the MICROS system to record transactions accurately for each order.

Staff in this role are expected to ensure that guests’ needs are anticipated and met, checking in after each food course and beverage to confirm satisfaction and promptly address any issues. Closing duties such as restocking and securing the work area are also among the responsibilities. Beyond technical service tasks, the role demands adherence to all safety and security policies, professional appearance, confidentiality of company information, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team. Clear and courteous communication with guests and coworkers is essential as well.

The position requires physical stamina as servers may need to stand, walk, or be on their feet for entire shifts, often moving or lifting objects up to 25 pounds independently and sometimes heavier with assistance. The ability to navigate various surfaces and perform tasks involving bending, reaching, twisting, and fine motor skills is necessary.

Candidates for this role should have at least a high school diploma or GED equivalent, with a preference for those with at least one year of related experience in food and beverage service. Although supervisory experience is not required, the capacity to maintain professionalism and deliver excellent service consistently is vital.

Marriott International, including its St. Regis and Pelican Hill brands, is deeply committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace. The company promotes an environment that values cultural diversity and offers equal opportunity employment, welcoming applicants from all backgrounds and ensuring nondiscrimination under applicable laws. Joining The Resort at Pelican Hill means becoming part of a global team dedicated to hospitality excellence and career development, where associates are empowered to bring out their best selves and thrive in a dynamic, guest-focused environment.
