Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Four years of experience in building or institutional housekeeping/custodial work
  • Two years of supervisory experience
  • Ability to occasionally lift/carry 40 pounds
  • Ability to push and pull a maximum force of 25 pounds
  • Successful completion of a physical examination upon conditional offer
  • Willingness to work in a state institution or similar facility
  • Must comply with safety-sensitive position requirements if applicable
  • Must be able to work during inclement weather as essential personnel
  • Eligible to work in the United States

Job Qualifications

  • Four years of experience in building or institutional housekeeping/custodial work
  • Two years of supervisory experience
  • Ability to plan, inspect, and supervise the work of employees
  • Knowledge of housekeeping principles and practices
  • Familiarity with stock control and inventory methods
  • Understanding of cleaning compounds and insect/vermin control solutions
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to analyze situations and adopt effective courses of action
  • Experience in policy development and implementation
  • Ability to maintain records and prepare reports

Job Duties

  • Sweep, dust, mop, scrub, wash, vacuum, wax, and polish building floors, walls, woodwork, windows, furniture, equipment, and hardware
  • Clean and sanitize laboratories, washrooms, and bedrooms, keep washrooms supplied with paper, towels, and soap
  • Collect and dispose of trash and garbage
  • move equipment and furniture such as beds, tables, and chairs
  • Perform sanitary inspections in designated areas for infection control
  • Replace and remove medically contaminated sharps and/or medically soiled and contaminated dressings and supplies
  • Order and distribute custodial supplies
  • maintain inventory
  • Observe and report safety violations
  • actively participate in emergency situations
  • Assist in training and continued education of lower-level workers
  • Plan, assign, and supervise all functions of a housekeeping department
  • Inspect quarters for maintenance of proper housekeeping standards
  • Supervise and maintain records of the distribution of furnishings
  • Maintain necessary records
