Job Description
Griffin Memorial Hospital (GMH) is a pivotal adult treatment facility operating under the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services. Situated in Norman, Oklahoma, GMH offers specialized care focused on crisis stabilization and residential treatment for individuals grappling with substance abuse, mental health issues, and trauma-related disorders. The hospital serves all 77 counties in Oklahoma, making it a statewide resource in mental health and substance abuse treatment. Established to provide comprehensive, compassionate, and evidence-based care, GMH operates as a 24-hour, 120-bed inpatient facility, equipped to meet the diverse needs of its patients with the integrated support of dedicated healthcare professionals and staff.
The Housekeeping/Custodial Worker positions at GMH play a crucial role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment essential for the wellbeing and recovery of the patients served. These full-time, non-exempt roles fall under the GMH housekeeping supervisory organization and operate on a regular work schedule from Monday to Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., ensuring the hospital's environment continuously supports quality care delivery. The position is categorized at two levels: Level I, designed for candidates with no prior experience, and Level II, which requires at least one year of experience in building or institutional custodial work or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Corresponding to these levels are hourly salaries of $13.70 and $14.66 respectively.
Housekeeping/Custodial Workers are entrusted with routine cleaning duties such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, disposing of trash, and maintaining general cleanliness across the hospital’s premises. They are also trained to handle more advanced tasks, including the disposal of restricted or environmentally hazardous materials, ensuring compliance with safety regulations. The role demands vigilance and care, particularly when managing potentially hazardous substances, to safeguard both patients and staff.
This position requires candidates to hold a valid driver’s license and the ability to travel as needed for work-related duties. Due to the safety-sensitive nature of the job, all applicants must pass pre-employment and pre-placement drug and alcohol screenings. As a full-time role, this position offers comprehensive benefits, including health coverage options, flexible spending accounts for healthcare and dependent care, paid holidays, vacation and sick leave days, employer-matched retirement savings plans, employee assistance programs, longevity pay bonuses, and support for professional growth through ongoing training and continuing education units (CEU).
GMH operates 24/7, with work hours, shifts, and locations varying according to operational demands. Weekend and overtime work may be required, reflecting the dynamic and essential nature of the hospital’s service provision. Importantly, GMH is committed to inclusivity and offers reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities upon request. The institution proudly stands as an equal opportunity employer, ensuring non-discrimination across race, religion, color, sex, age, national origin, disability, and genetic information. This demographically inclusive approach fosters a respectful and supportive workplace.
By joining GMH as a Housekeeping/Custodial Worker, applicants become integral members of a team dedicated not only to maintaining cleanliness and safety but also to contributing directly to the therapeutic environment essential to the health and recovery of the patients at the hospital. This role is perfect for motivated individuals seeking a stable, impactful career in custodial services within a respected mental health and substance abuse treatment institution.
