The Housekeeping Worker role at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, a key facility within the RWJBarnabas Health network, involves crucial responsibilities to ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment in patient rooms, nursing stations, ancillary areas, and other designated locations. This hourly position operates on a day shift from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm and requires full-time commitment, including weekends and holiday shifts. Additional responsibilities include arranging furniture for meetings and community affairs, maintaining cleaning equipment, promptly reporting maintenance needs, and replenishing consumables like paper towels and soap. The role requires vigilance in observing and addressing emergency spills and other immediate environmental hazards to uphold a safe patient and staff environment. Job Requirements
- High school diploma preferred
- successful completion of general and department specific orientation required
- ability to work full time day shift from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm including weekends and holidays
- ability to perform physical cleaning duties
- willingness to follow hospital environmental, safety and infection control protocols
Job Qualifications
- Successful completion of general and department specific orientation
- high school diploma preferred
- previous hospital housekeeping experience preferred
Job Duties
- Arrange furniture for meetings, workshops and community affairs
- assists in cleaning of emergency spills observed or upon request
- cleans housekeeping closet and maintains par levels
- collects and transports all waste including regulated medical waste according to policy
- compacts trash or places in containers
- damp buffs and shampoo carpets with approved equipment
- dry and wet mops floors of rooms and offices
- dust mops and wet mops corridors, stairwells and other common areas
- empties waste receptacles and removes trash
- maintains assigned equipment for cleanliness and reports repairs needed
- observes and reports the need to repair equipment, furniture, building and fixtures
- performs patient discharge cleaning using seven-step cleaning procedure
- refills paper towels, toilet paper, soap and toilet seat dispensers
- ensures all patient rooms are patient ready at all times including tent cards, toilet seat bands and privacy curtains
