The Housekeeping Technician I position at NBG is an entry-level, full-time role focused on maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and operational readiness of both the indoor and outdoor facilities. This role is essential in creating a welcoming, hygienic environment for visitors and staff. Working full-time at 40 hours per week, this position is non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), with starting pay at $16.00 per hour. The technician works under supervision and alongside experienced Facilities team members to learn best custodial and maintenance practices within a botanical garden setting.

The primary responsibilities include performing routine and deep cleaning tasks such as restroom sanitation, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, floor scrubbing, laundry, and trash removal. The technician also assists with event setups, ensuring that rooms and outdoor spaces are arranged according to specified layouts for programs, meetings, and special events. Minor building maintenance tasks and supply monitoring are part of daily duties to support seamless garden operations. This physical role demands the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions, and operate equipment like golf carts and ladders. Safety procedures such as lock-out/tag-out protocols, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and firefighting equipment are part of the technician's training and responsibilities.

Job Requirements

Job Qualifications

  • high school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • experience with floor maintenance such as stripping and waxing floors highly preferred

Job Duties

  • perform daily and deep-clean custodial duties including restroom sanitation dusting vacuuming mopping laundry floor scrubbing and trash removal
  • perform minor building maintenance tasks and monitor custodial supply levels reporting discrepancies
  • set up rooms for events staff meetings education classes and other activities according to layouts
  • respond promptly to guest or staff cleaning needs ensuring positive visitor experience
  • perform safety procedures including lock-out tag-out operating firefighting equipment and wearing PPE
  • assist with Garden-wide special events and other duties as assigned
