The Housekeeping Environmental Services (EVS) Associate role at Banner Ironwood/Goldfield Medical Center is an essential position within the Facilities, Environmental Services, and Culinary Department. Housekeeping EVS Associates play a vital role in supporting the overall health of patients by maintaining hygienic conditions throughout the facility. This role involves performing a variety of cleaning tasks, including dusting, mopping, scrubbing, disinfecting, vacuuming, and polishing different hospital areas to ensure they meet stringent safety and cleanliness standards. The work environment is dynamic and physically demanding, requiring associates to navigate fast-paced settings, manage cleaning equipment, and use appropriate cleaning chemicals safely and effectively.

Associates will be responsible for emptying hampers, transporting soiled linens, managing trash and medical waste containers, restocking supplies such as toilet tissue and hand soap, and maintaining cleaning equipment. Occasionally, they may be assigned special projects like window washing or removing heavily soiled furnishings. Effective communication with team members, medical staff, patients, and visitors is crucial, as associates often respond to questions and requests, helping to maintain a positive and cooperative atmosphere.

The evening shift runs from 3 pm to 11:30 pm, with required weekend and holiday rotations. New hires may work every weekend initially, with a flat-rate weekend shift differential and an 18% night shift differential when applicable. In emergency staffing situations, associates should be flexible in working at the Banner Goldfield Medical Center location. Banner Health also mandates employees to participate in an annual flu vaccination program to promote a healthy work environment.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to work evening shifts including weekends and holidays
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as walking and pushing a cleaning cart
  • Ability to safely handle cleaning chemicals
  • Must pass background check and drug screen
  • Must complete onboarding in a timely manner
  • Must receive annual flu vaccine or obtain an approved exemption
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to read and comprehend safety instructions related to cleaning chemicals
  • Flexibility to work at different facility locations in emergency staffing situations

Job Qualifications

  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team without continuous supervision
  • Must be able to interpret and respond to verbal and written instructions
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with others by phone and verbally
  • Must be able to read and understand material safety data sheets and instructions for mixing and use of cleaning chemicals
  • Must be able to fill out chemical identification stickers
  • Previous related experience and familiarity with environmental services equipment and cleaning techniques preferred
  • Additional related education and/or experience preferred
  • Employees working in certain behavioral health settings must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of employment
  • Must sign an Arizona Criminal History Affidavit upon hire

Job Duties

  • Performs a variety of assigned cleaning tasks, including dusting, mopping, scrubbing, disinfecting, vacuuming and polishing according to departmental policy and procedures
  • Empties hampers and transports of soiled linen
  • Empties trash containers and removes all trash
  • Empties all medical waste containers, including sharps
  • Inventories, restocks and replenishes supplies such as toilet tissue, paper towels, hand soap, etc., located in all assigned areas of the facility
  • Maintains cleanliness of departmental equipment and notifies appropriate personnel as repairs become necessary
  • Protects equipment from damage by proper use
  • properly logs out and in equipment that has been used
  • May perform special projects such as windows washing, wall washing, removing heavily soiled items or furnishings
  • Responds to questions and requests from patients, staff and visitors
  • Meets or exceeds goals for customer service satisfaction
  • Works as a member of the environmental service team to ensure the safety, health, and high morale of patients, visitors and staff by helping to provide a clean, safe, and aesthetically pleasing environment
