Job Description
The Washington Navy Yard is a historic and operational naval facility located in Washington, District of Columbia. It serves as a center for naval administration, support, and a variety of operational and ceremonial functions. As part of the Navy Gateway Inns and Suites network, the facility provides quality accommodations and services to military personnel and their families, contractors, and other authorized guests. This establishment is committed to maintaining high standards of cleanliness, safety, and guest satisfaction to uphold the Navy's reputation and comfort standards.
We are currently seeking a dedicated Housekeeper to join our team on a part-time basis at the Washington Navy Yard. This role is essential in ensuring that all guest rooms, public spaces, and surrounding areas meet the highest levels of cleanliness and maintenance. The Housekeeper will be responsible for a broad range of duties including cleaning, vacuuming, dusting, mopping, and maintaining guest rooms and other assigned spaces. The position requires physical effort such as moving furniture and operating both hand and powered cleaning equipment. Working within this role at the Navy Gateway Inn and Suites means contributing directly to a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment for our guests, many of whom are active service members and their families.
This position offers a pay rate of $22.27 per hour and is structured as a part-time engagement with work hours ranging from 20 to 34.5 hours per week. The role emphasizes attention to detail, the ability to perform deep cleaning tasks, use of cleaning and maintenance tools, and ensuring that amenities and rooms are always guest-ready. The Housekeeper will also be responsible for tasks like laundry operations, minor equipment maintenance, and managing guest keys securely.
The ideal candidate will maintain excellent guest relations by greeting and welcoming guests, ensuring guest privacy and security, and promptly communicating any unusual circumstances or issues encountered during service. Certification requirements include proper food handling certification for those assisting with the breakfast service and NHG housekeeping certification within six months of employment.
Other essential aspects of this role involve adhering to safety and security protocols set by the NEXCOM Hospitality Group (NHG), applying knowledge of blood-borne pathogens for safety concerns regarding linens and personal items, and maintaining cleanliness in both interior and exterior facility spaces. This ensures not only a hygienic environment but also compliance with health and safety standards.
Working as a Housekeeper at the Washington Navy Yard offers an opportunity to be part of a respected institution with a strong commitment to quality service and operational excellence. The position is well suited for individuals who are conscientious, physically capable, and motivated to contribute positively to the guest experience in a military hospitality environment.
