Job Description
Kaiser Permanente is a leading integrated managed care consortium, known for its quality healthcare services and comprehensive medical facilities. The organization operates numerous hospitals, medical offices, and clinics across various regions, committed to providing accessible, patient-centered care. As an established entity in the healthcare industry, Kaiser Permanente emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and patient satisfaction as key pillars to delivering exceptional health services.
This role is focused on environmental services within Kaiser Permanente facilities, specifically responsible for maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards across a wide range of patient and staff areas. The position requires working under the supervision of the Director of Environmental Services and adhering strictly to the organizational policies, procedures, and relevant laws at the state, federal, and local levels. The incumbent will play a critical role in preserving a sanitary environment that meets rigorous healthcare standards, which directly supports the health and safety of patients, healthcare personnel, and visitors.
The Environmental Services worker is tasked with independently managing the cleanliness of various clinical and non-clinical areas including offices, restrooms, patient rooms, lounges, examination and special procedure rooms. Using approved cleaning agents and operating electric cleaning equipment like washers, strippers, waxers, and vacuum cleaners, the employee must ensure all surfaces are properly maintained, reflecting the cleanliness expectations set forth by the department. This not only contributes to infection control but also promotes a healing, professional atmosphere.
Additional responsibilities include inspecting assigned areas to ensure compliance with departmental standards, maintaining security, and promptly reporting any deficiencies or concerns. The role involves regular restocking of hygiene-related dispensers such as soap, towels, and toilet tissue, as well as the proper disposal of refuse and hazardous materials—which includes infectious waste like needles and syringes—according to stringent protocols. Handling of soiled linen and cleaning of equipment like wheelchairs and gurneys are also essential components of the job.
The role demands physical stamina and the ability to engage in moderate to heavy lifting, standing for extended periods, and moving furniture or equipment when necessary. The successful candidate must follow clear, basic work instructions effectively and maintain courteous, cooperative relationships with colleagues, patients, and visitors. Participation in ongoing staff development and compliance training is required to stay aligned with evolving standards and operational procedures.
This position is critical in ensuring a safe and functional environment, where cleanliness directly impacts patient outcomes and overall satisfaction. It is an excellent opportunity for individuals who value attention to detail, have good physical endurance, and wish to contribute meaningfully to a respected healthcare organization. While no prior formal experience or certifications are necessary, a commitment to the responsibilities and upholding Kaiser Permanente's core values is essential for success.
