Job Requirements

  • Sufficient education to demonstrate functional literacy
  • Prior housekeeping experience in an institutional setting preferred
  • Must demonstrate functional literacy in language, mathematics, and reasoning
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal directions
  • Physical strength and mobility to perform duties including lifting and assisting residents
  • Ability to use personal protective equipment and comply with safety procedures
  • Must be free from illegal drug use and workplace substance effects
  • Must pass background checks for abuse, neglect, or mistreatment history

Job Qualifications

  • Freedom from illegal use of drugs
  • Freedom from use of and effects of drugs and alcohol in the workplace
  • Persons found guilty of abuse, neglect, or mistreatment in a healthcare setting are ineligible
  • Utilizes effective time management skills
  • Sufficient education to demonstrate functional literacy
  • Prior housekeeping experience in an institutional setting preferred
  • Must demonstrate functional literacy in language, mathematics, and reasoning
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal directions
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff and residents
  • Knowledge of emergency disaster procedures
  • Physical ability to move freely and assist residents in emergencies

Job Duties

  • Carries out all duties in accord with the facility mission and philosophy
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and respect for the rights, dignity and individuality of each resident in all interactions
  • Appreciates the importance of maintaining confidentiality of resident and facility information
  • Demonstrates honesty and integrity in the care and use of resident and facility property
  • Cleans assigned resident rooms, bathrooms and common areas daily according to facility procedures
  • Cleans walls, ceilings, windows, mirrors, and waxed floors according to department procedures and cleaning schedules
  • Disposes of trash and waste including biohazardous waste in accordance with facility policies
  • Posts signs indicating safety hazards during housekeeping activities
  • Uses personal protective equipment as required
  • Complies with all safety instructions and procedures when using chemical substances
  • Monitors and reports evidence of rodents or pests
  • Communicates with Director of Housekeeping & Laundry regarding state inspections
  • Reports injury to self or others immediately to supervisor
  • Attends in-service education programs
  • Monitors workplace for safety and fire hazards and reports potential problems
  • Participates in fire and disaster drills
  • Carries out all other housekeeping duties as assigned
